If a new garden, major renovation, or outdoor living project is on your wish list for next year, now is the time to begin.

Thoughtful garden design takes time. Time to understand your property, your priorities, and how you want to live in the space. Time to imagine what it could become, then shape those ideas into a plan created specifically for you and the character of your landscape.

With careful planning, the garden you’ve been dreaming about can begin to take root long before the first shovel hits the ground. (Swipe to see how this plan came together!)

Start by completing our brief intake form to connect with the Heidi’s GrowHaus and Lifestyle Gardens design team. We’ll learn more about your space, your ideas, and the possibilities ahead. Find the form link in bio.

Adding Art to the Garden

Plants may be the foundation of a garden, but art is often what gives it personality.

Garden art can be anything that adds visual interest beyond the plants themselves: sculpture, pottery, fountains, obelisks, antiques and found objects, or whimsical items like figurines and fairy gardens. The key is to make it your own and select pieces that work for your personal style and budget - whether you have a large formal garden or container on the patio.

A few helpful design principles:

• Consider scale. A large garden bed may need one substantial piece to hold its own, while a small container might call for a single orb, figurine, or miniature accent.
• Create a focal point. Place art where it draws the eye, marks an entrance, anchors a planting, or adds interest at the end of a path.
• Leave room to breathe. Not every open space needs to be filled. One thoughtfully placed piece can have more impact than several competing elements.
• Work with your budget. Garden art does not need to be expensive. Start with one piece you love, repurpose something you already own, or build a collection gradually over time.
• Make it personal. Whether your style is modern, rustic, playful, elegant, or wonderfully whimsical, the best garden art reflects the person who tends the garden.

Swipe through for examples from Heidi’s home gardens, along with garden art, pottery, and miniature accessories available now at GrowHaus. Stop in and find a piece that brings a little more personality to your garden.

Your new favorite obscure holiday: Take Your Houseplant For A Walk Day—a botanical celebration invented by herbalists in Pennsylvania, and one we just found out about recently.

Our team took the assignment seriously. Jacey walked her cat palm on a leash for some new scenery. Anna brought her Earth Star to the Duluth farmers market to make some new friends on the North Shore.

Turns out there’s more to it than quirky photo op. Getting a houseplant into natural sunlight is one of the easier ways to catch pests early, before they turn into a bigger problem, and it gives the whole plant a refreshing once-over you’d never bother with on the windowsill.

Also, it’s just a nice excuse to bring a plant somewhere new. We’re into it.

100+ days of growing season left. 🌻

Did some after-hours ambling through the gourd tunnels today (they’re gorgeous right now, come see) and got to thinking about everything you could still plant. Another round of brassicas. Cut flowers. Cover crops on the horizon. The garden isn’t done with us yet.

Heidi (my mom) says it best: the garden doesn’t grow tired. The gardener does.

So if you’re feeling the late-summer slump, come walk the campus, get inspired, and let’s figure out what’s next for your space together.

We’re here to help you grow. 🌱

Sometimes, a garden consultation is simply the best place to start.

This guest reached out when the w**ding and maintenance had become difficult to keep up with.

That initial conversation grew into a larger project. Our team thoroughly w**ded the beds to uncover and liberate the existing perennials, added annual color, refreshed the mulch, and put protections in place against pest damage.
The goal was not to remake the garden, but to restore what was already there and make it feel manageable again.

Have a garden challenge you are not sure how to tackle? A consultation can help you understand what your garden needs and determine the right next steps.

You know how they say clothes make the man? Sometimes pottery makes the plant.

The right pot can bring out a plant’s color, complement its shape and show it off in a whole new way. It can also add color, texture and personality of its own. Curated throughout a patio, entryway or garden, plants and pottery can help define the style of the entire space.

Right now, all pottery is 25% off at Heidi’s GrowHaus, in every style and size. Pick up the piece you’ve had your eye on, add to your collection or take your outdoor spaces in a new direction.

A beautiful plant can stand on its own. The right pot simply gives it another way to shine.
