Ever notice those striking, feathered wooden staffs and rods in Native American art? They are known as Prayer Sticks, spirit sticks, or medicine sticks. They’re far more than decorations—they carry layers of meaning.

Handcrafted rods or staffs made from natural wood, wrapped in deerskin leather, and adorned with bright prayer feathers. Sometimes you’ll spot medicine wheels or tiny medicine bags tied on. Each detail matters.

The person holding the stick breathes their prayers into the feathers. That way, their hopes and wishes ride along, carried straight to the creator by the feather’s spirit.

And what are the prayers about? Honestly, they’re often for some of life’s biggest needs—good rains, health, a strong harvest, or the safety of their people.

For Native communities, these sticks aren’t just art. They’re living symbols of faith, respect, and a powerful bond with the earth. Used in ceremony for millennia...
