I was cleaning out some old photos today and came across a pair of shoes that meant a lot to me.

I bought them with my own birthday money when I was in high school. Back then, they felt like such a big purchase. They followed me through years of life, memories, adventures, and countless versions of myself. Even after all that time, I held onto them.

Three years ago, they ended up for sale in the shop. Part of me wasn't entirely sure I was ready to let them go.

Then a woman walked in and saw them. Her face lit up instantly. She picked them up, held them close to her chest, and smiled in a way that told me everything I needed to know. In that moment, I knew they were no longer mine. They had found their next person.

Sometimes the things we keep aren't really about the object itself. They're little containers for memories, reminders of who we were at a certain point in our lives. And sometimes the greatest joy comes from passing those things along and watching them become part of someone else's story.

It's nice to look back and reminisce. It's also nice to know that some things are meant to keep traveling.

What started as a backyard birthday party with a few friends and a campfire has grown into something much bigger, but the heart of it never changed. Music, community, and a weekend where strangers quickly become friends.

Campfires at night. Kids running free during the day. Musicians on stage and then back in the crowd jamming until sunrise.

This year we gather again for Family Hoedown 9, and the theme is The Family Circus.

Think big top energy, wild creativity, and a whole lot of beautiful chaos under one musical tent.
