Test sculpture for a bigger sculpture with wires and Nerikomi inserts.

Why is it a test? What did I learn from this piece?
1. The wire bends under the weight of Nerikomi pieces, I need to use a thicker wire.
2. I can fire them on stilts so everything is glazed.
3. Covering the place where the wire comes out with clay creates ugly little bumps. I can use a shorter wire, it will embed itself into the clay just fine when the clay shrinks.
4. I need two holes at the top to attach the nylon hanging wire and not just one.

FYI: This is Kanthal wire. It can be used in the kiln. You can also use it to create little loops for pendants and probably stilts or hanging trees for jewelry. It's awesome.

Mobius (?) vase with a knot and a purple line.
I really like this one even though I am not 100% sure that it is actually a Mobius strip. Is the twist hiding in the knot or did I just forget about it?🤔

These two slipcast bowls have a tragic story.
They are twins separated at birth.
I was testing a new two parts mold for a moon jar type piece but I tried to open the mold too soon and the piece split apart at the seam.
I really like the marbled design so I attempted to turn them into bowls.
They're not the best bowls ever, but they're kind of cool and they have a good origin story of resilience and survival.

Test tiles necklace
I finally found the time to test my stains with my new porcelain slipcasting slip at different concentration, from 10% to 2.5% (darkest to lightest) stain to dry slip.
It's just so pretttttyyyy! I love colored porcelain.
I could totally wear this as a necklace. Look at last picture to see how cool it looks!
Yes, it will also allow me to make more informed decision on the colors I want to use and save some money.
But mostly? Sooo Pretty!

A couple of carved neriage cups.
Recently I started playing with this technique again, using colored clay to make pieces on the wheel.
It uses a lot of colored clay for one piece since you always waste some clay on the wheel.
I'm miserly with my colored clay as it's a lot of work to make and it's expensive.
It's very pretty though!
These are 10-12 oz but I'm thinking I should make even smaller ones, they would be super cute.

Tree line and foggy hills.
Slipcast cup with staggered colors.
I made a similar cup before with trees in fall colors but the colors were a little too bright.
When I sold the cup, I vaguely thought about trying again.
One day on a hike I took a picture of hills in the fog (see last picture) and decided it was the moment to try again with subdued colors.
I love the way it turned out.

A couple of smaller Nerikomi Mobius Vase in Orange and blue/green.
I have noticed that orange doesn't seem to seem to sell quite as well as other colors at markets and I am not sure why. I love orange, so vibrant!
How do you feel about it? What's YOUR favorite color?
Tell me and we can be friends!
