Alicia called H2H to step in and help her with finishing the edible garden portion of a beautiful new professionally designed garden space. Her special request was to incorporate cut flowers into her veggie garden so that it had a very free-flowing, natural look. This one is going to have so many stunning days as it fills in! 🥬🌅🌸

Trellises and trellising are important in the garden for several reasons. They provide support as plants grow and allow vines and branches to be trained in a desired direction.

This is important for the health of the plant, helping keep it well-aerated and free from tangling, knots, and overlapping with other plants. Trellising also helps us make better use of garden space by growing vertically, while creating shade that can benefit more sensitive plants.

And aesthetically? Trellises add height and depth to a garden, creating structure that attracts pollinators and people alike 🌿🪜🐝

A little look back at some of our winter harvests and all the cool-season favorites that make a winter garden worth waiting for.🌱

Broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, leafy greens, carrots, celery, onions, leeks, fennel, bok choy, winter tomatoes, and even fresh citrus.

And if you’re thinking, wait… isn’t it still summer? 👀 Now is actually a good time to start thinking about what you’d like growing when the temperatures cool down.

Meet our Urban Farmer, Amy

Q: What’s your favorite vegetable and why?
Amy: I definitely have seasonal favorites. In the summer months, I love a pickled vegetable - cucumbers, snap peas, and beets are at the top. (And who decided the pickled cucumber got the official title of pickle?)

Q: What’s your least favorite vegetable and why?
Amy: Right now, I would have to say artichokes. Love to grow them, they are beautiful (even more beautiful if they flower), but they’re the worst to prep and cook.

Q: Can you give me one health benefit of one vegetable?
Amy: I could give you so many health benefits of different vegetables, I could write you a book, and I don’t think we have the time or space for that lol.

Q: What’s one thing you’re grateful that the client does when you’re working in the garden?
Amy: Let their dog out to say hi. I’ve got some favorite dog friends on my routes for sure.

Q: You’re sent to fix up a client’s garden, what is your walk-in theme song?
Amy: Damn It Feels Good to Be a Gangsta

Q: If you had to shout out another H2H employee, who would it be and why?
Amy: Serjeff/Jeffio? We really need to figure out the Brangelina name for you two, but I’m leaning towards Jeffio. You guys do all the hard work so that we can grow those veggies.
