Like the rest of the world, I have been praying for the miraculous recovery of our beloved Big Bear Bald Eagle, Jackie... hoping beyond hope… she would return to her partner, Shadow, and to the skies above Big Bear. Today we learned that was not her path, but her legacy lives on. She brought us together in community, showed us the majesty of these stunning birds and how they bring life into this world, and through her hospitalization the world came together to protect her natural habitat for her babies and other wildlife. Rest In Peace, sweet Jackie. You are now soaring in the heavens. ❤️

And the deepest thanks to the incredible wildlife veterinary teams that tried their hardest to save her.

Patient Update: Bald Eagle 26-519

It is with profound sadness that we share that Patient 26-519 passed away in the early hours of this morning, following more than three weeks of intensive medical care.

Over the past several days, her condition continued to deteriorate despite intensive treatment and the combined efforts of our veterinary team and consulting specialists. She remained critically ill, receiving oxygen therapy, supportive treatment, and around-the-clock monitoring in our intensive care unit.

Throughout her time at Ojai Raptor Center, every decision was guided by the available medical evidence, her welfare, and our responsibility to do what was in her best interest.

Her remains have been transferred into the care of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW).

We know this news will be deeply felt by the many thousands of people around the world who have followed her journey, hoped alongside us, prayed for her, and supported the people caring for her.

Our team is heartbroken. It has been an extraordinary privilege to care for her.

We ask for patience and kindness as our staff process this loss. We are working closely with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and will provide a more comprehensive statement including additional information on her treatments and test results.

To protect our staff and community during this difficult time, comments on this post have been turned off.

To everyone who cared about Patient 26-519, thank you. Thank you for your messages, your prayers, your encouragement, and for standing beside our team throughout these past weeks. We are deeply grateful for the way Patient 26-519 brought people together through a shared love of wildlife.

Sometimes the things we create today have roots we don’t even realize were planted years ago. ❤️🐾

I’ve had this little photo charm for a very long time. It isn’t one of the Pet Angel Photo Charms I offer through Heaven Sent Pets — but looking at it now, I can’t help but smile at the connection.

Long before Heaven Sent Pets ever existed, I already understood how much comfort there is in having a tiny reminder of a pet you love close by.

Funny how life comes full circle. ✨

Some stories are incredibly difficult to read—but they're important to share. My heart breaks for Rylie's family and for the unimaginable loss they're experiencing. ❤️🐾

Please take a moment to read their story. It's also an important reminder that we all need to stay vigilant when it comes to protecting those who depend on us—our beloved pets, wildlife, livestock, and even young children. It only takes a moment for a tragedy to happen.

If this post helps even one family recognize a danger they hadn't considered, sharing it will have been worthwhile.

Please keep Rylie's family in your thoughts. 💙

The Hebert family are just devastated after losing their beloved pup, Rylie, when she suffocated in a chip bag on July 4th. Samantha Hebert writes, “On July 4th, we lost our sweet daughter, Rylie, after she suffocated on a chip bag that had been left on our countertop while we were swimming in the pool. It was an unimaginable tragedy, one that could have been prevented if we had known about these risks.

Rylie was a mixed breed, we think Pit Bull and Husky, although we're not entirely sure. My husband and I adopted her from a rescue in 2017 while he was deployed. She was with us through three different military bases and was such a source of comfort and companionship for our family. She was the sweetest girl, a lover, a cuddler, and endlessly curious. She had a tendency to counter surf, get into the trash, and keep us on our toes, but she was truly the best dog.

We were celebrating the Fourth of July and had just finished putting away all of our food. At the last minute, we decided to go to the pool. As we normally did, we put the kitchen trash can away and pushed a few chip bags back against the backsplash on the counter. We said goodbye to both of our dogs and headed out. When we came home, only one of our dogs greeted us at the door. That immediately felt wrong because Rylie was always the more energetic and excited one. I let our other dog outside and started searching for her. I found Rylie next to our bed with a chip bag completely covering her head. I ripped it off, but I immediately knew she was gone. The shock and trauma of that moment are something our family is still trying to process.

As we began sharing what happened with friends and family, it became clear that none of us had ever heard of the danger of chip bags or pet suffocation. We had no idea this was even a possibility.

It's my hope that by sharing Rylie's story, another family will learn about this hidden danger before it's too late. If telling her story can save even one pet's life, then her legacy will continue to make a difference.

We are still trying to process and accept what a tragedy this has been. Your nonprofit was the first thing I found when I was frantically searching online after it happened. The information and stories you share have been both heartbreaking and comforting, knowing we're not alone.”

Holidays are a vulnerable time for pet suffocation incidents. It’s easy to get distracted as many of us get occupied with company, entertainment, and activities. Please share to spread awareness in honor of sweet Riley, gone too soon. Thank you.

Sometimes the most meaningful gift isn't for a birthday or a holiday. It's the one that says, "I'm thinking of you."

About 75% of Heaven Sent Pets memorial keepsakes are purchased as gifts, helping families find comfort after losing a beloved companion.

I'm grateful I had the opportunity to share that story during my recent television interview with Fox Los Angeles ❤️🐾 FOX 11 Los Angeles

If this story resonates with you, I'd love for you to share this clip with another pet lover.

One of my favorite moments from the Macy's Father's Day event. ❤️ Macy's

This sweet mom stopped by to create a Father's Day portrait and card for her son... who just happens to be Slinky's favorite human. 🐶

And yes... Slinky gave us his signature wink. Wait for a close up of Slinky’s wink… 😉

At Heaven Sent Pets, we're here to celebrate every chapter of the bond we share with our pets—from life's happiest moments to the memories we hold forever. 🐶❤️🐱
