Im gonna tell my 1st chicken incubation story just so everyone knows that feather farming isn’t always pretty, easy, or delightful but it is worth it for my sanity😍😘🐓🦆🪿🐣🦃
Well just had to make an emergency decision!! I’ll start from 19 days ago…. Day 1: I had a dozen hatching eggs 🥳
Day 7: 4 have no development/blood ring so now there are 8 🐣
Day 16: Preparing for my last candling before lockdown and the 2nd egg I candle has pipped!! 😳 I panic bc it’s 2 days early and oh no have I just shrink wrapped my babies? Did I miscalculate the days? Oh s**t the humidity is still at 50% …. The googling has spiraled 🫣😳😬😭🙄
Day 17: 2 have hatched,(1 in the middle of the night and the other while I was at work) 2 more pipping and the humidity is 75% ok good I didn’t hurt them.
Day 18: the other 2 have hatched but the other 4 have not pipped 🫣😳😬 Now I’m going back and forth on if I can grab the hatched out without harming the other 4 unhatched and hoping they pip over night
Day 19: 😳🤮🤢 my husband calls and says I think an egg exploded!! Now I don’t have time to debate I have to remove everything and clean I cannot let these 4 hatched dye bc of bacteria!! So I hope I made the right decision I put a broody hen in with the babies and the 3 unhatched eggs (one has piped). I don’t want to lose all of them but I will have to be ok if the 3 eggs don’t make it but the 4 hatched do 😭🫣 I was too scared to put the eggs and babies in the box with the hen bc it’s about 4ft high and in the main coop with 40 other chickens, roosters and turkeys.
Day 1 of hoping a broody hen will adopt 3 eggs and 4 babies …. Will update when my heart stops racing!!
