A Quick History of Stamped Pokémon Cards
1999–2002: Pokemon’s Early Stamps
Stamped Pokémon cards started with things like the 1st Edition stamp, W-stamped promos, and Winner tournament cards. mostly special or promotional release
2004–2007: The Stamped Reverse Holo Era
This era most collectors think of when they hear “stamped cards.” Starting with EX Team Rocket Returns, EX Deoxys, EX Delta Species, and EX Holon Phantoms became famous for them, you pulled this in the Reverse Holo slot.
The pack-pulled stamped era ended with EX Power Keepers in 2007.
2007–2016: Prerelease Stamps
Set stamps disappeared from regular booster packs but continued on special Prerelease promo cards given to players at Pokémon events.
2016–2018: Then came Prerelease Kits
Starting with XY—Fates Collide, stamped Prerelease promos were packaged inside Prerelease Kits along with booster packs, it was random on which one you got!
2018–Today: Build & Battle Boxes
Started with Sun & Moon—Lost Thunder, Prerelease Kits became Build & Battle Boxes.
Stamped promos remain a major part of these boxes in today’s sets.
