A retired US Naval Captain 🫡 retired recently and my friend and knifemaker Billie with Midnight Wolf Knives thought a gift to his old boss needed a beautiful Damascus blade.

I designed a sheath using the knife’s curves with laser engraving acknowledgment of his service in the United States Submarine Service; “Death from Below!”

I met a new customer at the Lewis County ABATE Kickback Campout last weekend. He found a nice antler-handle Bowie knife in my “haven’t got around to it” box; he commissioned a custom leather sheath. He also wanted to use a tattoo on his arm for the knife front. I used AI to isolate and edit the tattoo for a laser quality image. I added some edging hi-lites and ultimately stained the image to bring out detail.

Structurally, my customer wanted a high on the handle positioned retention strap so I added a super magnet to ensure the knife didn’t flop out of the sheath.

I finished up 4 quick knife sheath builds for Midnight Wolf Knives in time for an event in Longview. Billie makes some beautiful blades and we’ve worked to enhance each other’s trade for several years.

My second fair entry in my life! My first was a rabbit in the Silverlake/Toutle Fair at the Silverlake Grange in 1978; got a red ribbon (fricken ear mites).

48 years later, I put in some leather at the Castle Rock Fair and got a Best in Show. I better watch my head going through doorways for at least a week!
