6 years ago, I learned that a comic book store is never really about the comics. It's about the kid who finds his first Spider-Man issue and realizes heroes can look like him. It's about the table of strangers who become friends over a $5 Commander game on a Friday night.
It's about belonging. That's what I am rebuilding.
As many of you know, building something you love isn't a straight line. I’ve had setbacks. Doors closed. Plans that didn't work out. When (Wilde Comics and Gaming & Wilde Cards) changed, I had a choice — walk away, or take everything I learned about community, about this town, about you all, and build something better and closer to home.
So I chose Crawfordville. I chose Wakulla.
Wakulla Cardboard Nerds isn't just a business to buy cards and comics. It's three things:
First, it's a third place. Not home, not work — the place where Wakulla Cardboard Nerds isn't just a place to buy cards and comics. It's three things:
First our events, it's a third place. Not home, not work — the place where you want to be. A safe, welcoming table where a 10-year-old, a 40-year-old dad, and a 70-year-old collector can all sit down and play.
Second, it's an investment in our kids. Every Magic tournament, every Pokemon trade day, every Comic Book page they can dig into— that's a kid off a screen, learning math, reading, strategy, sportsmanship, and how to lose gracefully and win humbly.
Third, it's local. When you spend with us on a Friday nights or on site. That stays here. It doesn't go to an algorithm. It goes to prizes for our kids, to local events, to keeping our community alive.
So here's my ask. I'm not asking you to love comics. I'm not asking you to learn Magic — though I do have loaner decks if you want to try.
I'm asking you to believe that Crawfordville deserves a place like this. A place for the nerds, the gamers, the readers, the weirdos, and the wonderful — because let's be honest, we're all a little bit of that.
So come to our Commander Nights, Wednesdays and Fridays. $5 donation, all skill levels, bring your own deck or we have loaners. Bring your son. Bring your daughter. Bring that stack of old cards in your closet you haven't looked at in 20 years. We'll find a place for you.
We're calling it Wakulla Cardboard Nerds because we don't take ourselves too seriously. But we take each other seriously.
Thank you for giving us a second chance to build something great. Thank you for showing up. The tables are open and the next game is about to start.
