Fishing Update October 10, 2026: I have had 6 charters over the past 4 days, and this old man is a bit wore out. Thankfully, it has been worth it. The boat is definitely slimy.
We are DEFINITELY in fall transition. Water temps 72F (down 13 deg. from 16 days ago). From talking to folks loading at the boat ramp, all species of anglers are having excellent results. Catfish are widely scattered, but very active. They were literally everywhere except anchored up in deep holes (no more late summer doldrums). Current flow fair to moderate (consistently). Fresh Skipjack right now is absolute king. White & Yellow bass barely touched. All dragging.
Wednesday PM: Several caught quickly, 6 under 15 lbs. shallow flat. Quite slow in late afternoon, then bite window at sunset. 8 caught including at nice 30lb. 15 minutes past sunset.
Thursday AM: No access to shallow water to start, caught 6 early under 15 lbs. along ledges. Had access to a good shallow flat around noon, and caught a massive and hungry 51 lb. I really like the fish you have to hug to hold for pictures.
Thursday PM: Access to a big creek fed flat. Started good, ended good. 11 caught including 3 +20 lb. Caught first 2 channel cats of the year, which was not surprising fishing shallow flats.
Friday AM: Access to big inner bend shallow flat. Tons of smaller keeper fish, which is what the client wanted. Last hour, went to inside channel ledge, caught a few more including a +20lb.
Friday PM: Access to big creek fed outside bend shallow flat. A lot smaller keeper fish to start, then a few teeners. Another channel cat caught. Second half of trip started working the ledge (boards both on top and bottom of ledge). Few Caught a few more eating sized, 3 +20lbs, then a +30lb 15 mins after and absolutely stunning pre-storm sunset.
6 trips: 75 catfish caught, worst trip was 8. A few days off as the storm remnants down some much needed rain.
