Taking a brief break from Harry Potter to knock out a shorter book or two that I need to read. Starting out with Gathering Blue, a companion book to The Giver.

This is the first time I was really disappointed in these books. Heard it wasn't the best, but I had no idea because this was rough. There are parts I liked: Fred and George's plot, Ginny and Neville getting more attention, and the addition of Luna. It's far from the worst book I've read. I can't even call it bad. However, with chapters like "Fight and Flight" I cannot call it good either. There were several plot points that were fumbled.

Added another Le Guin novel to my collection. (Had to stop at my favorite bookstore Brown Sparrow Books) Haven't read any of Le Guin's work in the Hainish series. If I like this one, I will definitely make getting those books a priority.

Stopped by the used book swap at Brown Sparrow Books with my extra copies of The Mist and First King of Shannara. Got The Alchemist and Notes from Underground in return. Think I made some decent swaps. Gonna need to look through my catalog and see if I can swap anything else at the next one.

Since I have a little more time on my hands, I have big plans for my unfinished manuscripts. This one, The Gordian Labyrinth, was a project last summer. Maybe I will finish it.

The summer is now here and I plan to read as much as I can. Already a hundred pages into Order of the Phoenix. Let's see if I can still complete my goal of reading all the Harry Potter books in a year.
