My mom used to make us Oreo cookie ice cream usually once every summer when we were kids. She’d buy the big super value tub of vanilla ice cream, let it soften a bit, then put in an entire package of Oreos that she’d blitzed in the food processor. It always came out a sort of gray color due to the finely ground cookies. We loved it. I think my sister and I are convinced our mom single handedly created cookies ‘n’ cream ice cream. I just made a batch. ❤️

She’s gone. I’ve dreaded this moment my entire life. My mom has died. She passed away at home, out of pain, and knowing she was loved. These last months have been difficult, but now I feel so incredibly grateful to have had them, and that the universe gave her such a gentle send off. There never would’ve been enough time, but we had time to say goodbye, and I’m realizing now how special that was. These last seven months…that was her gift to us.

A huge thank you to everyone who came to my birthday sale yesterday. It was an incredible day and it warmed my heart to see so many people bring in donations for our library collection. Every year, without fail, you guys continue to show up and support in a way that every small business owner dreams of. A million thank you’s will never be enough.
I went to the hospital today to visit with my mom. I took a piece of leftover birthday cake knowing she probably wouldn’t be able to eat it. I took it anyway. I’m still learning to manage my expectations. Many of you know my mom hasn’t been doing well. She’s been shuffled between hospitals and facilities since January. She’s a fighter though. I’m her baby, the youngest of five, and we’ve always had a special bond. And now, in my fiftieth year, I’m on the cusp of losing her.
I’ve been thinking so much about life lately. Big things. Little things. And it hasn’t escaped me how much I feel like I’m still a kid. The world is at war, Madonna has a new album out, and I don’t wanna leave my mom’s side. But there’s always hope. And birthday wishes, even if you don’t eat the cake.
