Historic moment for the Cumberland Police Department.

As Tavion George walked across the stage to receive his Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Allegany College of Maryland, he was also officially welcomed into the Cumberland Police Department family as our newest hire.

This represents the first time in the history of our Department that a graduate has been hired in this manner while receiving their diploma — a proud moment that reflects the future of policing, education, and community partnership.

When Chief James R. Pyles announced Tavion’s hiring to those in attendance, the gym erupted in applause as Tavion received a standing ovation recognizing both his academic achievement and his commitment to serving the community.

Tavion’s hard work, dedication, and commitment to public service have already set an outstanding example, and we are excited to welcome him to the men and women of the Cumberland Police Department.

Please join us in congratulating Officer Candidate Tavion George on these incredible accomplishments and wishing him success as he begins his law enforcement career serving the citizens of Cumberland.
