The great thing about needlepoint is it’s a lot like a book, you can pick it up and put it down. You can take a break and stitch something else. It fills little gaps of time or large swaths of the day. I’ve stitched at the salon, in waiting rooms, at the beach and even during the Knicks finals game. Did I mention it can distract from stressful situations and boring ones in equal measure? Whether it’s a cold winter day or hot summer night and no matter your location, it’s a great way to relax and make something beautiful. I’m finally finished this little Paris luggage tag after an embarrassing amount of time. I stitched other things in between beginning and finishing this one, but kept coming back to it. And now it’s hanging on by suitcase, ready for the next adventure.

Stitching Wednesdays have begun at The Farmstand and I am thrilled so many of you are as excited as we are. Additionally, due to popular request we’re adding Stitching Sundays soon. Even more exciting, many of you want to learn to needlepoint! So stay tuned, next week we will be offering pre-orders for beginner kits. They will have everything you need to get started and you can pop into either of our stitching days to stitch with us.

All the details coming next week…stay tuned!

Hey Annabelle…

I am always on the hunt for unique vessels that will add the final touch to a simple arrangement of fresh flowers. We’re lucky to have hundreds of hydrangea stems on our property and having special pieces like this makes it so easy to stick the flowers in and have a great moment without fussing over getting them just right. No greenery needed, just a vintage mug and a couple Annabelles. I love to look for vases in Paris but have found so many great ones in little antique shops locally too. It’s something to always keep your eye open for and tuck away for the perfect moment. It’s the small things, the little details that bring the most joy.

We seem to be living in an era of “if you didn’t take a picture, it didn’t really happen”. Our cell phones and social media feeds are filled with photographic proof of every detail of our lives from our breakfast plate to our weekend trip to the lake. No moment is too big or too small to document like a journalist on the front lines of battle. But in being so intent on capturing the moment are we actually missing it? While in New York I ended up leaving my phone in the car while attending a couple events, much to the dismay of my friends who wanted the aforementioned photographic proof of life. Turns out you can attend an event, not take a single picture and still be able to have an amazing time. Dare I say an even better time than if we were focused on getting the most impressive photo to post immediately for the world to salivate over? I’m all for sharing the highlights and even some of the low moments too, obviously, but some moments are meant to be quiet and private. At the last game of the NBA Finals in Madison Square Garden, half the crowd appeared to be watching the game through their camera phone. Can you imagine paying $5-$80K for a ticket only to watch the heart stopping final seconds via cell phone video? I am not saying no more photos or videos, rather enjoy the moment first and photograph later. The most powerful lens you have is your eyes and the most robust photo album is in your mind. Cell phone pictures are at the mercy of the cloud…memories are forever. Make more memories.

I have a new favorite thing for travel. It’s a simple thing, but so clever I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to find it. I am always knocking things off my nightstand in hotels. Whether it’s my phone, a lip balm or a bracelet I’ve bumped it all to the ground and I know I’m not the only one. Recently we spent a ridiculous amount of time crawling on the floor of a hotel room looking for an errant cuff link which had made its way from a nightstand to under the edge of the bed and into a shadow where it seemed to be playing an annoying game of hide and seek. We knew it was missing and to look for it, but what about the ring that falls off and is forgotten until you’re back home?

That’s why I love these little leather valet trays. They’re the perfect size for travel and lay flat to pack. You just snap them up when you arrive and fill them with treasures. When it’s time to go home they unsnap and slide into your carrying taking minimal space. Honestly they’re perfect at home too. On a nightstand, in the bathroom or by the chair where you throw things on a side table. It’s a must have and, by the way, an affordable and perfect gift. The intl tough decision is which color…I poured over that decision for an inordinate amount of time.

They’re available now at The Farmstand and you can also order at the link below.

The thing about these NBA finals is that while it was about basketball, it was also not about basketball at all. It was about loyalty and heart and belief and community and a shared story of a city that never gives in and never gives up. The reminder that everyone has a story, everyone is on the same team and when it looks like all hope is lost those are the moments winners rise and losers quit.

I was lucky enough to be inspired again and again in that beautiful city over the last several weeks, not just by basketball, but by the core of what it is and what it allows anyone to be. Jalen Brunson, the captain of The Knicks, isn’t the only man who has come to New York an unlikely hero and become a titan. Kept working until he got everything he’d ever wanted. Proved the doubters wrong and made the believers proud. Seen all his dreams come true.

It’s a New York City story, but it’s a lesson to all of us to never give up, never give in and always believe in a dream come true.

New York Forever

Come celebrate dreams coming true with one exhausted Jet Setter ShopGirl today at The Farmstand.

Have you ever had something that made you laugh disproportionately? For me this week it was the parking enforcement woman handing out ticket after ticket to a lineup of cars with an average value of $200,000. From G Wagons and Range Rovers to a Bentley and this Ferrari, she was printing one ticket after another and placing them under the wiper blade where they would await the rule bending driver’s return. Of course my immediate thought was how little concern this $65 ticket would cause those drivers and my suspicion was confirmed when further up the block I saw a man, no doubt one of those ill behaved finance bros, remove said ticket by flicking on the wiper blades long enough for it to fly away down Park Avenue. What makes me think that wasn’t the first time?

Let’s get serious. You don’t jet set around, walk in the park at 6am and stay out until midnight without paying the price. And while your version of burning the candle at both ends may look differently than mine, the results are often the same…tired, crinkly and puffy eyes. My under-eye puffiness is so pronounced some mornings it creates the appearance of dark circles when it’s really just shadows. Not a good look! This power duo is my go to remedy and it’s fool proof. The Susanne Kaufmann Eye Rescue Serum is my twice a day non-negotiable. I love keeping it in the fridge so the roller ball packs extra punch. In the mornings in use it alone and in the evening a layer one of two heavier creams on top (DM me for details on those creams!). The real magic for the roughest eye days though are these Jillian Dempsey under-eye masks. I use them at night if I know it’s been a long day or in the morning when I look up and scare myself in the mirror. And yes, I keep these in the fridge too. I can’t rave enough about both of these products. If your eyes need some help, these are what you need. Shop these and our full range of clean beauty at The Farmstand or click the links below to order.

Last night was an epic NYC night and for the second Wednesday evening in a row I found myself double booked. First, I had the pleasure of attending an intimate chat and shopping event with Amy Smilovic and Trinny Woodall at Tibi SoHo. These two are both powerhouses in their respective businesses and hearing their perspective on everything from creativity and taking risks to belts and color theory was inspiring and energizing. At promptly 7pm my chariot arrived, I tossed my shopping bags in the car and we headed north for Game 4 of the NBA Finals and the greatest game in the history of games. The Knicks gave us all a collective ulcer but what a game…what a night! That’s the thing about NYC, there’s always something amazing happening. Now, back home to get to work on some serious Farmstand fun!

What a way to close out another amazing visit to this city I love . I can honestly say I have never seen NYC the way it was last night. The energy, the excitement, the camaraderie was next level. All the way from the tip of Manhattan to the Upper East Side people poured out onto the sidewalks to take it all in. Strangers jumped and hugged and screamed and danced with excitement for their team and for their city. Despite it being midnight, there was no way we could go inside and sleep. It was a moment to be celebrated as a collective and so we walked and kept saying “what just happened?!?!?”. The most historic comeback in NBA playoff history. This city will toughen you up and humble you but it will also make you believe absolutely anything is possible. This victory, the unwavering belief it isn’t over until it’s over and never giving up or giving in? That’s what I’ll be bringing home with me tonight. See you soon, NYC!
