Completed these pieces over the past two weeks. Top two are my interpretations of August Macke’s work from 1914 and the bottom is an interpretation of Claude Monet’s, ‘La Grenouillère’, 1869.

Now back to drums this week. I have Rainbow Poplar, Walnut, and Bubinga snare drums up next.

This is a 14x6.5, 8-lug Bubinga stave shell with a hand-rubbed oil finish. The shell is 0.5” thick at the bearing edges and milled to 0.375” at the shell wall. It will undergo buffing and wax treatment before being assembled with nickel-finish hardware.

Top left: ‘Empire’ features a 14x6 Big Leaf Maple stave shell with hand-rubbed oil finish and Aztec Gold hardware

Top right: “TB1” features a 14x5.5 steam bent Tasmanian Blackwood shell with oil finish. Outstanding tone wood from Australia.

Bottom left: “Tonight” features a 14x6 Roasted Birch stave shell with a glitter-embedded clear lacquer finish. That’s the wood’s actual color after roasting.

Bottom right: “Mahogany HolloCore” features a 14x6.25 Mahogany stave shell with a hollow core between the walnut inlays. Super fat and punchy sound.

‘Sixty-Five’ features a segment shell crafted from Bolivian Rosewood, Torrefied Maple, and Curly Maple with a lacquer finish. Bolivian Rosewood (also known as Pau Ferro) is a dense hardwood with its acoustic properties that sit somewhere between traditional rosewood and maple, producing a balanced, warm tone combined with a brighter, snappier attack and fast response.
