If your top-stitching looks wonky, chances are your stitch length isn’t long enough. Increasing you stitch length to anywhere between 4 and 5 drastically changes the look. It will help you avoid inconsistent stitch lengths, those teeny tiny stitches that rip into your bag fabric, as well as hide slight inconsistencies in your sewing.

Thread type and needle type may also help clean up the look, but the right sized stitch length is always necessary for the best finish.

Does your elastic roll when you sew it into a neckline? Flip up on your bikini bottoms? Sit just plain weird?

Whether you’re using a zig zag stitch or your cover stitch, elastic just isn’t happy unless you sew as close to the bottom edge as possible…without your stitch sliding off!

Many RTW garments such as swimsuits, leotards, etc., are finished with a zig zag stitch, which lends perfectly to our first hot tip! Sew that elastic on from the inside of your garment so you can watch your needle. Ensure your stitches are catching right where you want them as you sew. Eventually, you’ll have a feel for where your stitches need to hit, and you won’t have to look anymore (but maybe you’ll want to).

21 Days of Sewing 👙🩴🌴🏖️

How it works:

For the next three weeks, each Sunday starting the 21st your daily challenges for the week will be posted.

Post a picture of your participation to your instagram and tag The Styled Magnolia OR post to the TSM page.

Make sure to include the hashtag for either platform.

Your name will be added to a drawing at the end of the week for prizes and/or a chance to be featured on TSM’s Instagram and page!

Each day you participate counts as an entry, so post daily! If you post to both Facebook and Instagram, it counts towards two entries a day!
