The February 8, 1963 Iraqi Revolution Medal – Three Distinct Variations

As I was organizing my collection, I made an interesting discovery about the February 8, 1963, Iraqi Revolution Medal. While these medals may appear identical at first glance, there are actually three distinct variations, all differing in one key detail: the placement of the manufacturer’s mark on the back.

This medal was produced by Huguenin, Switzerland, and was awarded to commemorate the Ba’athist coup that overthrew Abdul Karim Qasim on February 8, 1963. However, after closely examining three specimens, I noticed:

✅ Variation 1 – The manufacturer’s name appears at the bottom of the reverse side.

✅ Variation 2 – No manufacturer’s mark at all.

✅ Variation 3 – The manufacturer’s name appears at the top of the reverse side.

These differences strongly suggest that Iraq placed three separate orders for this medal, and the manufacturer added subtle distinctions to identify each production batch.

This finding could be valuable for other collectors who own this medal. If you have one, check the back—your medal might be from a different production run! Feel free to comment if you have additional insights or another variation.
