Vegetables are started and growing. Broccoli, cucumbers, arugula, bok choy and tomatoes moved to pots already. Swiss chard, collards, turnips, lettuce, cabbage, komatsuma, celery, and much more just stuck their noses up. Peppers still taking their time. Come get them when you are ready to plant!

Cat Whiskers are finally blooming strong at Annie’s Acres. This tropical plant works well in a warm climate garden. Cat whiskers should be planted in an area of full sun to partial sun in well-draining soil. Place the plant at the back of a bed because it has a shrub-like shape and most garden plants will reach two to three feet each season. The flower spikes offer a good source of nectar for hummingbirds and butterflies in a pollinator garden. It is an easy-care plant requiring moderate water levels and feeding. My aloe is also starting to bloom - watch for lots of visits by the hummingbirds this week!

Speckled Purple Bee Balm (Monarda) is finally blooming this year! This native plant is a hardy perennial herb that attracts pollinators and hummingbirds. It produces fragrant foliage used in teas and culinary applications. It grows 2 to 4 foot tall and is a vibrant addition to your butterfly garden. Large plants are only $10 each at Annie’s Acres. Daisy took a long nap after the Swap, but she says she sure had fun seeing all of you come visit her again. This was a fantastic swap with so many raffle items and new people joining us. I hope you all had a great time and plan to come back to our Fall Swap / Raffle. Date should be worked out soon so we can lock it into our schedules. We’ll be starting our fall garden seedlings in September so start planning your vegetable garden. Growing your own veggies is the fall is THE BEST! Broccoli, Cabbage, Bok choy, Komatsuma, Green beans, and so much more. Daisy and I will be glad to help you be successful. Come see us!

Weather forecast for Annie’s Acres tomorrow (Saturday) shows sunshine and NO RAIN until after 1 PM. We actually did get a ton today, much to my plants delight. Reminder: You can recycle unneeded pots at Annie’s Acres anytime, as long as they are not broken or ripped. The black pots are made from petroleum products - and we all know that cost has risen. No need to put them in a landfill. Likewise, if you need a few pots, check here. Lots of pretty pots will be available at the Raffle tomorrow. Be here well before 10 AM to get involved. Plant Swap and Raffle THIS SATURDAY at Annie’s Acres. Bring plants, cuttings, or seeds if you wish for the swap, just be sure they are clearly labeled and non-invasive. Everyone present can join in the swap and take home a wagon of plants for free! Swap starts promptly at 10 followed by an awesome Raffle for lots of great items. All proceeds benefit rescue animals. Several vendors will be present so bring your cash. Be sure to check Annie’s $1 table for zinnias and other bargains.

White Cat Whiskers is a tropical plant that is easy to care for requiring moderate water levels and feeding. The flower spikes offer a good source of nectar for hummingbirds and butterflies in a pollinator garden. Cat whiskers prefer a location in full sun but can tolerate some light shade. The blooms will be more profuse when the plant is grown in full sun. Annie’s Acres has both large plants and smaller ones available. The Blue Butterfly Bush is so unique! The tropical flowering shrub is adored for its delicate, sky-blue and violet blooms that resemble tiny butterflies fluttering along its arching stems. It is an easy-care plant that blooms from spring through fall. Annie’s Acres has about a dozen waiting for you to take them home and love them. Only $15 each. Open daily 9 to 6 including Saturdays and Sundays. Join us for the Plant Swap/Raffle this Saturday. We start the action at 10 AM so be early! Lots of great Raffle items!
