THE STORY

The Puzzled Co was started by Philip Einsohn a former school teacher with a degree in Early Childhood Education from The University of Texas at Austin. In 1977, Philip launched a hand-cut wooden puzzle company in response to the lack of learning-based puzzles observed during his time as a post-grad Kindergarten teacher. Philip's love for puzzles easily translated to his second career as

an expert in custom waterjet design for commercial & residential application. In 1999, he launched Waterjet Works, a design and fabrication studio built on the foundation of using waterjet technology to precisely cut a variety of materials from carpet & LVT to glass & metal, stone and porcelain.

Learn about the eye with the My Sight: Eye Puzzle for EveryBody, custom eye-shaped puzzles that we waterjet cut & printed with Braille & tactile graphics for American Printing House . We got a little preview of APH’s The Dot Experience museum, and learned from visitors playing with APH’s innovative K-12 products like the eye puzzle. Thanks to these two women in this video for showing us the puzzle piece by piece.

The My Sight: Eye Puzzle is available in an acrylic light box or pvc table top version. Each puzzle piece has a distinct tactile pattern and unique fitting so false fits are impossible. The unique fittings allows the puzzle to be assembled on a tilted light box for people with low vision. Each puzzle comes with a key to guide the learner to match the numbered Braille & related pattern, to the correct part of the eye. This educational puzzle is federal quota fund eligible for educators and librarians.

Thanks to the speed puzzlers who tried a new perspective with our tactile art Puzzles for EveryBody. What would it be like to assemble a puzzle without your sight? The fastest folks in the game slowed it reaaaaal down and found out. It’s remarkable to observe someone’s brain in action while puzzling. Thanks to for featuring tactile puzzling at National’s again this year. We got great feedback which helps us grow and learn to design towards our goal of making the joy of puzzling a little more accessible. Cause it’s so fun to play together!
