Reflux right now? Here’s what actually helps, and what probably doesn’t.

Sugar-free gum? Surprisingly, yes.

Sleeping on your left side? There’s science behind it.

Apple cider vinegar? Not so much.

But getting relief tonight and understanding why your reflux keeps coming back are two very different things.

Dr. Ken Brown breaks down what the evidence actually supports, which popular remedies don’t hold up, and the question most reflux advice never asks:

Why are stomach contents moving upward in the first place?

✨ Comment AM and I’ll send you my Morning Reflux Protocol.

If you wake up with reflux, a sour taste, or that gross feeling in your mouth, it may have started hours earlier while you were sleeping.

Morning reflux is often about what happened the night before - when you ate, how full your stomach was, and the position you slept in.

There are a few simple things I look at first, and together they can make a big difference.

✨ Comment AM and I’ll send you the full protocol.

Your mom had reflux. Your dad had reflux. Now you have reflux. Coincidence?

Maybe not.

Research suggests reflux can run in families. But what you inherit may not actually be “acid reflux.” It could be the anatomy, structure or physiology that makes reflux more likely.

Your genes may load the dice. They do not necessarily roll them.

So what does your family history actually tell you, and what can you do about it?

For more than 30 years, I dealt with reflux myself.
And yes, the irony is that I was also the GI doctor helping other people with the exact same problem.
I tried medications. I tried the “natural” options. I kept looking for something that made sense long-term.
Eventually, I realized I had been asking the wrong question.
This is the story of what happened next and what ultimately changed the way I think about reflux altogether.

✨ Comment MAP and I’ll send you my full Abdominal Pain Map.

Where you feel pain, pressure, or bloating can give us important clues about what part of your digestive system may be involved.

And sometimes the location people assume is their “stomach” is actually coming from somewhere else entirely.
In this reel, I’m showing you the quick mental map I’ve used for years as a GI doctor to start narrowing down what may be going on.

Your gut has a natural rhythm, and most people completely miss one of the easiest windows to work with it.
This is one of those small changes that sounds almost too simple, but I wish more of my patients knew about it.

⭐️ Comment DEBATE and I’ll send you my Reflux Containment Guide.

Too much acid? Too little acid?
That argument misses the bigger question: why is anything from your stomach coming back up in the first place?
Reflux is often less about the amount of acid and more about whether your stomach is moving food forward and whether the valve at the top is keeping everything where it belongs.
That’s why some people can suppress acid and still keep having reflux symptoms.

Comment DEBATE and I’ll send you the guide that breaks down the containment side of reflux in plain English.

No heartburn? You could still have reflux.

Constant throat clearing. Hoarseness. A nagging cough. That feeling like something is stuck in your throat.

These can all be signs of 'silent reflux'.

But here is where it gets interesting: acid may not be the thing causing the damage.

There is something else coming up with the reflux that most people have never heard of.

✨ Comment RISKS and I’ll send you my Acid Reflux Medication Side Effect Breakdown.

PPIs can be incredibly useful medications, and for some people, they’re absolutely necessary.
But if you’ve been taking one for years, I think you deserve to understand what long-term acid suppression may affect beyond your heartburn.

Stomach acid has important jobs. It helps you digest food, absorb key nutrients, and protect against unwanted microbes. When you suppress it for a long time, there are potential downstream effects worth discussing with your doctor.

Comment RISKS and I’ll send you the full breakdown.

Heartburn. Acid reflux. GERD. Same thing? Nope.

Here’s the easiest way to remember it:

• **Reflux** is what happens.
• **Heartburn** is what you feel.
• **GERD** is when it becomes a recurring problem.

The number most people don’t know? **Two or more times a week.**

If you’re reaching for something for heartburn that often, it may be time to ask **why it keeps happening.**
