Did you know, Fall is one of the best times to plant trees and shrubs in North Texas? As temps and the ground start to cool down, this allows your root systems to grow, spread out and get settled, giving them a head start before the heat returns next year!
Here are a few of our favorites we have in store right now!
Coppertone Loquat (Eriobotrya japonica) grows in full sun to part shade, appreciates regular water while establishing and prefers well draining soil. Loquat trees are only mildy cold hardy in our area and can suffer significant freeze damage in temps that exceed 10-12 Degrees Fahrenheit.
Anacacho Orchid Tree (Bauhinia lunarioides) loves full sun to part shade, needs low water once established, prefers well draining soil and blooms only in the spring with delicate white flowers. The Anacacho Orchid tree is a stunning focal point in any garden!
Texas Mountain Laurel (Dermatophyllum secundiflorum) is a drought tolerant Texas native with fragrant purple blooms in late winter to spring. It prefers well draining rocky or limestone soil and low or infrequent watering once established!
Bay Laurel (Laurus nobilis) enjoys full sun to part shade here in north Texas, moderate water while it’s establishing and well amended soils. Bay Laurels are amazing evergreen trees, they bloom in early spring and you can use the leaves for cooking!
