Why Even Executives Must Master the “Analog” Side of Leadership

In conversations about AI, automation, and digital transformation, there’s a growing assumption that technology will solve most workforce challenges. But the reality is far more nuanced.

The future of leadership will not be purely digital.

Even the most advanced organizations are discovering that executive judgment, human insight, and strategic interpretation remain irreplaceable.

Today’s workforce challenges include:

• AI and automation reshaping jobs
• Global talent shortages
• Rapidly shifting skill demands
• A workforce expecting flexibility, purpose, and mobility

The real leadership challenge is no longer simply:

“How many people do we need?”

Instead, it is:

“How do we continuously redesign our organization’s capabilities?”

Modern organizations are moving toward:

• Skills-based workforce planning
• Internal talent marketplaces
• Cross-disciplinary innovation teams
• Human–AI collaboration models

But with these opportunities comes a new responsibility for leadership: digital balance.

Executives must ensure:

• Responsible AI adoption
• Human oversight of algorithms
• Ethical workforce governance
• Transparent decision-making

Technology can analyze patterns.

But leaders must interpret them.

This is where the analog side of leadership becomes essential.

At JustMyself LLC, we help organizations rethink workforce strategy, leadership capability, and adaptive organizational design for the next era of work.

Because the future belongs to organizations that can balance:

Digital intelligence
Human judgment
Strategic adaptability

As the Founder and CEO of Just Myself LLC, I spend a great deal of time thinking about how technology is reshaping the way organizations operate and how leaders make decisions.

This past week I had the opportunity to participate in a panel hosted by the Global Skills Development Council on governance, regulation, and human oversight in emerging technologies—particularly the integration of AI, IoT, and blockchain.

One idea stayed with me after the discussion:

As technology becomes more powerful, the need for human oversight becomes more—not less—important.

Organizations are increasingly relying on AI to support decisions in hiring, forecasting, strategy, and operations. These systems can surface insights faster than ever before. But they cannot determine values, ethics, or accountability. Those remain human responsibilities.

As part of my work advancing organizational behavior and organizational development practice, I’ve been developing a framework called the HARMONI Model (Human–AI Responsible Model for Organizational Networked Intelligence).

The goal of the model is simple:

Ensure that AI augments human intelligence rather than replaces human judgment.

The framework outlines a structured decision process:

H — Human Framing
A — Algorithmic Insight
R — Reflective Human Review
M — Multi-Stakeholder Alignment
O — Organizational Governance
N — Networked Implementation
I — Iterative Learning

More broadly, the model is intended as a contribution toward evolving organizational decision theory for a world where human judgment and algorithmic intelligence increasingly interact.

I'll also be continuing this conversation next week.

Next Wednesday I will be speaking on the evolving role of CHROs and workforce planning during uncertain times, building on my research on leadership ambidexterity and the strategic role of HR.

More details to follow.

Have We Reached the Limits of Human Creativity?

It feels like everything has already been done.

Another podcast.
Another AI tool.
Another leadership framework.
Another “revolutionary” idea that sounds strangely familiar.

We are producing more content than ever in human history.

But here’s the uncomfortable question:

Are we actually more creative — or just more efficient at remixing?

AI hasn’t killed creativity. It has exposed it.

If a machine can replicate what we produce in seconds, maybe what we were creating wasn’t as original as we thought.

The real issue isn’t that human imagination has peaked.

It’s that our systems reward:
• Speed over depth
• Visibility over originality
• Monetization over meaning
• Comfort over courage

True creativity requires friction.
Silence.
Risk.
Interdisciplinary thinking.
Intellectual bravery.

And most modern institutions are structured to minimize those things.

So maybe we haven’t reached the limits of human creativity.

Maybe we’ve reached the limits of our comfort.

The next renaissance won’t come from better tools.

It will come from braver thinkers.

Are we willing to build environments that actually support that?

Let’s discuss.

The Olympics Are Over. Now What?

The stadium lights have dimmed.
The medals have been awarded.
The world has moved on.

But here’s what most people miss:

Gold medals are not won during the Games.
They’re won in the quiet years no one sees.

4:30 a.m. practices.
Repetition beyond boredom.
Training without applause.
Identity built in private.

The greatest competition isn’t external.

It’s internal:
• Doubt
• Distraction
• Comparison
• Fatigue

Now that the Olympics are over, we’re entering our own training season.

This is the moment to decide:
Will this be a winter of discontent — or a winter of opportunity?

Winter is construction season.
Less performance.
More refinement.
Less scrolling.
More focus.

Olympians master the mundane.
Leaders must do the same.

This is your reminder:
• Protect your deep work.
• Separate practice from performance.
• Build identity-based discipline.
• Train privately for public excellence.

February to March is your clarity window.

January was about setting goals.
April will be about outcomes.

But right now?
This is alignment season.

Uncertainty in your career isn’t neutral — it’s expensive.

It increases:
• Decision fatigue
• Opportunity cost
• Emotional volatility
• Strategic drift

When you’re unclear, you hesitate.
You overapply.
You say yes to roles that don’t fit.
You burn energy without gaining traction.

And in today’s market, employers don’t just hire skills.

They hire clarity.

February to March is the bridge:
Between intention and ex*****on.
Between dissatisfaction and strategy.
Between reaction and alignment.

Before you:
– Send another rushed application
– Rewrite your resume again
– Accept interviews you feel unsure about

Pause.

Reflect.

Journal.

If you're ready to reset intentionally, explore our upcoming workshops and events designed to help you plan your next move strategically.

Because clarity isn’t accidental.

It’s built.

Eliminating AI Slop — And Rebuilding Human Edge

We’re living in the most accelerated professional era in history.

AI drafts our emails. Builds our decks. Generates strategy in seconds.

But here’s the risk no one is talking about enough:

AI slop — the gradual erosion of originality and judgment caused by over-reliance on AI.

It shows up when:
• Strategy sounds polished but interchangeable
• Leaders approve work they didn’t deeply shape
• Teams edit AI drafts instead of generating ideas
• Speed becomes more important than insight

AI optimizes for probability.
Leadership requires discernment.

That’s why I encourage leaders to:

✓ Originate before you automate
✓ Protect analog thinking time
✓ Install a human judgment checkpoint
✓ Reward clarity over speed

Through Just Myself LLC, I created the JustMyself Journals as cognitive training tools — designed to rebuild focus, thesis clarity, and disciplined thinking in an AI-saturated world.

Being analog is not anti-AI.
It’s pro-judgment.

In an era of infinite content, the most valuable professional won’t be the most available.

It will be the most focused.

🐎 The Year of the Horse: Reclaiming Power in a Digital World

The Horse symbolizes freedom, stamina, courage, and forward movement. But in today’s hyper-digital world, speed without direction leads to burnout.

To truly harness the Year of the Horse, we must return to analog practices:
✍🏽 Handwriting instead of typing
🚶🏽 Walking without your phone
📖 Reading physical books
🔕 Intentional digital fasting

The Horse thrives in focus — not fragmentation.

This year, choose disciplined momentum over distracted speed.

Happy Presidents Day 🇺🇸

Today we are reflecting on what we can learn from Abraham Lincoln — not just about political freedom, but about mental and moral freedom.

Lincoln was largely self-taught. He read deeply. He wrote constantly. He paused before deciding. His leadership was shaped by reflection.

In a world that moves at algorithmic speed, that feels powerful.

Freedom today isn’t only about laws or institutions. It’s also about attention.
Who shapes your thinking?
How often do you pause?
Do you create space to reflect?

Maybe honoring Lincoln looks like:
• Reading slowly
• Writing before posting
• Choosing depth over distraction

That’s why I believe analog practices are becoming essential again. Journaling isn’t nostalgia — it’s cognitive strength training.

If you’re ready to protect your focus and think more intentionally, explore JustMyself Journals and use code LOVE10 for a special Presidents Day reminder that freedom begins within. 🤍✍🏽

From Friday the 13th to Valentine’s Day… what a perfect reminder of how much meaning we project onto dates, numbers, and signs.

Superstition can comfort us—but it can also quietly run our decisions. Love and intuition ask something different: slow down, listen, choose with intention.

Here’s my gentle experiment this week:
✨ Less scrolling
✨ More writing
✨ More listening to that quiet inner voice

Analog habits—like journaling—create space for clarity, presence, and deeper connection (with yourself and with others). Slowness might just be the new luxury.

If you want to try it, Justmyself Journals is offering LOVE10 for a little Valentine’s season reset. 💛
Trade a little superstition for a little more love—and see what shows up.

We keep calling it “ironic” to use digital platforms to promote journaling, focus, and analog habits. But it’s not irony—it’s strategy.

Digital isn’t the enemy of depth. It’s the gateway. Most people won’t accidentally rediscover reflection, boundaries, or intentional living. They’re invited into it through a screen… and then they put the screen down.

That’s exactly why I built JustMyself—to use digital tools to help people create more space, more clarity, and more presence in their real lives.

The future isn’t digital or analog. It’s both—designed on purpose, for actual humans. 💛
If you’re craving more focus, more intention, and less noise, you’re not alone. And you don’t have to start alone either.
