The Wall Street Journal reported this week the reasons behind the rise in firearm sales. It's about personal safety. The article reported handgun sales were running twice the pace of long guns. One Georgia retailer said they were experiencing five times normal foot traffic in their location and training classes were booked through October. The report noted these buyers include those who previously fought for strict gun control. Jay Kingdon of Denver is a registered Democrat who protested and signed petitions for increased gun control following tragedies in Aurora, Colo., and Orlando, Fla. Now, he owns a handgun because of concerns police won't be able to respond in an emergency.
The coronavirus pandemic, George Floydโs killing and the ensuing movement to defund police are bringing in new buyers worried about their personal safety, according to buyers, store owners and gun experts.
