Hey Everyone. So as promised, I am here to deliver some info about what is getting ready to change in NYS.
First things first, IF YOU HAVE A NYS PISTOL PERMIT, YOU ARE GOING TO WANT TO READ THIS PART.
-If your pistol permit was issued before September 1, 2020, you need to make sure that you recertify BEFORE August 31 of this year. This is to switch over from the five year recertification requirement to the three year recertification requirement.
-If your permit was issued after September 1, 2020, you need to recertify every three years as needed and you don't need to take any action before the end of the month.
-Recertification can be done on the NYSP website: https://firearms.troopers.ny.gov/pprecert/welcome.faces

GOOD.. HERE GOES...
NYS is changing over to a Point of Contact state. What does that mean for you? It means that as of September 13th of this year, all background checks will be done through the New York State Police instead of us contacting NICS directly on your behalf. You will now be charged a fee of $9 on each firearm background check that is ran through the NYSP.
That brings me to my next piece.. as of September 13th of this year, a background check will also be required to purchase ammunition in NYS and the fee for those background check transactions is $2.50. We anticipate this to cause some problems at first while all of the new systems work out their kinks so if you've thinking about purchasing, now is the time for sure.
