It’s a very special “It’s StoryTime” on October 10th here at Rakestraw Books!  We are celebrating 100 years of Winnie The Pooh with stories and poems, a scavenger hunt, giveaways, games and the opportunity to write a special card to Winnie the Pooh that will have the chance of being displayed at The York Public Library and on Penguin Random House’s social media channels! All ages are welcome and adult supervision is required for all children attending. We are extremely excited to celebrate with you!

There’s no better feeling than hearing kids say “Best. Day. Ever!” and “Wow! My first book signing!” after leaving an event with a beloved author.

We were so lucky to welcome in a full house to meet James Ponti, author of the new book The Sherlock Society: Art Attack and the City Spies series. Kids got to ask questions, get their books signed and take photos with James who was kind enough to spend time talking to each and every person in the store.

He also spoke at a reception for local teachers and librarians before the event. And even convinced them to join a conga line (swipe to the final slide for proof!)

Thank you to everyone who came out for such a magical evening. I know this is one we’ll be talking about for a long time.

Rakestraw Books is delighted to welcome bestselling novelist Helene Wecker back to the shop on Wednesday, October 7th at 7 PM as we celebrate the publication of her remarkable new novel, The Gates of Midnight. She will be joined in conversation by J. P. Lacrampe, author of Valet.

The Gates of Midnight is the long-awaited final volume in Helene Wecker’s beloved and bestselling The Golem and the Jinni trilogy, a richly imagined and deeply transporting novel that brings the saga to an unforgettable close. All of us here at Rakestraw Books have been fans of Helene since the The Golem and the Jinni published back in 2012 (Michael’s mom, Julie, was a big fan!), so we are particularly excited for this final volume in the series.

Rakestraw Books is thrilled to announce an upcoming talk and signing with author Parini Shroff on Thursday, October 1st at 7:00 PM in store. Her newest book, “Some People” is already a staff favorite here at Rakestraw Books (Amanda says it’s her favorite of the year so far!) and her debut novel, “The Bandit Queens” has been beloved by staff members and customers for years.
