Halloween is this weekend and some of the best costumes don’t always come from a costume store. 👻

Sometimes, all it takes is a little secondhand treasure hunting, a creative idea, and a little procrastinating.

Come dig around Community Mercantile and see what you can turn into a costume this Halloween! 🎃

Many of you will remember my friend Robin Greenfield, from his stop-over in Davis, last June. Here's a wonderfully wrought documentary, encapsulating the year he spent foraging 100% of his foods and medicines. I'm so happy to have followed Robin's journey over the past several years. And it looks like he could be 'that spark that ignites' us all to enjoy Nature's bounty.

Honestly, we just want the best for you.

And if that means finding a really good secondhand treasure, saving a little money, and leaving Community Mercantile with something you absolutely did not come in looking for… we’re here for you.

UC Davis students, Davis locals, and secondhand lovers, your next “wait, I actually love this” find might be sitting on our shelves. 👀

Be Thoughtful About Your Donations...and here's why:

Giving to the local thrift shop feels good. You get to clean out your house and pass secondhand items on to someone who needs them. You're reducing waste and keeping things out of the landfill. A little more about what makes Community Mercantile different!

We’re a nonprofit, which means our mission goes beyond selling secondhand finds. We work to keep usable items out of the landfill and in our community.

When things don’t sell in the store, we look for other ways to give them a second life, including working with local nonprofits, artists, and upcyclers. Our executive director even rescues items that would otherwise be thrown away!

So whether you’re donating, shopping, or borrowing from our Library of Things, you’re helping make reuse possible.
