Coffee is on when the doors open at the Dawsonville showroom.

Nobody has to buy anything to pour a cup. It isn't tied to a sale, and there's nothing to sign up for.

Doors and windows are hard to sort out from a photo. Sizes, finishes, how heavy something actually feels. That part goes easier standing in front of it, talking it through with somebody who knows the products.

The coffee just makes that feel less like an appointment.

Paint-grade or stain-grade for your interior doors? The wood decides the answer, not your preference.

Paint-grade doors are usually built from engineered material like MDF. It takes paint evenly and hides the seams. What it won't do is take a natural wood finish well, since the grain isn't real.

Stain-grade doors use solid wood or a real wood veneer. That's what lets the grain show through a clear or stained finish. It usually costs more, and small imperfections in the wood show up instead of hiding under paint.

If the door is getting painted anyway, paint-grade does the job for less. If you want the grain visible, stain-grade is built for that.

One of the most common mix-ups on a door order isn't the door. It's the opening.

Older homes in North Georgia often shift over the years. A frame that looks square isn't always square anymore. A quarter inch off in one spot can be enough to throw a stock size out.

Catching it before the order goes in saves the whole timeline. Catching it after means a second trip and a longer wait.

If a home has been standing a while, it's worth measuring more than once. Twice, if the corners look even a little off.

More performance doesn't always mean a better fit.

It's easy to assume the higher spec is the safer choice. A thicker door, a higher-rated window, a heavier-duty material than the project calls for.

Sometimes that extra performance never gets used. A window rated for extreme wind loads on a covered porch. A door built for commercial traffic on a rarely used side entrance.

Matching the product to the actual job usually makes more sense than defaulting to the strongest option on the shelf.

Fiberglass or steel for your front door? Both hold up well. They just hold up in different ways.

Steel dents; a stray bump from a ladder or a bike can leave a mark that's hard to pull back out.

Fiberglass resists dents better and won't rust at the edges the way steel sometimes does over time in a humid climate. It usually costs a bit more upfront.

Steel tends to run more budget-friendly. For a side door or a rental unit, that trade-off can make more sense than it does on a front entry.

Neither one is the wrong answer. It depends on what the door has to deal with, and how long you plan to be looking at it every day.
