Your helmet takes care of you, take a few minutes to take care of it. 🧼
This quick visual tutorial walks through how to properly disassemble, clean, lubricate, and maintain your modular helmet to help keep everything operating smoothly for many miles ahead.
One of the easiest ways to shorten the life of your helmet is to never clean or maintain the moving parts. After a long ride, especially after bugs, rain, dust, or heavy road grime, take a few minutes and clean your gear.
STEP 1 — CLEAN YOUR SHIELD
For photochromic shields, use WATER ONLY. Avoid chemicals, cleaners, or solvents that could damage the photochromic coating.
STEP 2 — DISASSEMBLE & CLEAN THE JAW
Remove the jaw assembly and clean the areas around the moving components using mild soapy water and a cleaning brush. Remove road debris, dirt, bugs, and grime that can build up around the mechanism.
STEP 3 — RINSE & DRY
Remove any remaining soapy water and thoroughly dry the helmet. Use a clean microfiber towel to eliminate water spots and moisture.
STEP 4 — CLEAN THE METAL HINGES
Pay close attention to the metal locking hinges that secure the jaw. Make sure they are clean and completely dry.
STEP 5 — LUBRICATE THE HINGE
Apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant to the hinge mechanism. Cycle the jaw open and closed several times to allow the lubricant to work into the moving components.
STEP 6 — CONDITION THE SHIELD GASKET
Apply a light amount of silicone lubricant to the shield gasket, then gently wipe away any excess.
STEP 7 — REASSEMBLE & CHECK
Reinstall everything and cycle the shield and jaw several times. Make sure everything is operating smoothly and locking properly before getting back on the road.
A little maintenance goes a long way. Keep it clean, keep the moving components lubricated, and your helmet will be ready for many miles ahead. 🏁
