Today's Card of the Day features another awesome insert set from the 90s with 1998-99 Hoops Jump Up the Jam. This one in particular features Antonio McDyess a fast-rising star that got derailed by knee injuries.

The set featured 10 cards, including stars like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, and were inserted every 1:4 packs.

Today's Card of the Day is from the first year of Upper Deck Collector's Choice Basketball from 1994-95. This Robert Pack Gold Signature Series card isn't that valuable but these cards are a quick sell on eBay.

These cards were about 1 per hobby or retail 36 pack box and 1:20 jumbo packs when they came out. With 420 cards in the set, it's quite a task to put a complete set together. But it would look cool wouldn't it?

Back in the day I loved Robert Pack. At 6'2" he was an explosive dunker and seemed to be on his was to stardom after averaging 18.1 points per game for the Washington Bullets in the 1995-96 season. But injuries derailed his career and he never had that leap I hoped for.

Card of the Day today is a 1997-98 Fleer Ultra Juwan Howard Jam City insert. The cards were 1:8 Series 1 hobby or retail packs and had 15 players in the set, including names like Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal, Kevin Garnett and more.

Although this card isn't worth much, I love the look of it. It's like comic books and basketball came together for something cool.

Our Card of the Day today takes us back to the first year for NBA Hoops, 1989-90 with card #150 Larry Bird.

This simple design became iconic and now is highly liked by modern collectors. The set included 353 cards. It also had the rookie card for David Robinson, although he was the #1 pick in the 1987 draft. Why did it take two years to get his rookie card? David Robinson had to finish his enlistment in the US Navy before he could begin his NBA career.

There is also a yellow shaded set with the same design that included 100 cards and was released as NBA Hoops Super Stars and available at Sears.

In honor of today's NBA Draft, today's Card of the Day is the 1992-93 Upper Deck #1 Draft Pick redemption card, aka Trade Upper Deck. This is the chase that got me buying basketball cards instead of baseball cards when I was a kid. I can't even tell you how many boxes we bought from The Trading Post or Newman & Ullman in Decatur, IL.

What is the story on this one? Well, back in 1992 the #1 pick in the NBA Draft was Shaquille O'Neal. Prior to being drafted, he had signed an exclusive contract with Classic and was not able to be featured on other products at that time. Upper Deck's solution was to include redemption cards in Series 1 packs.

When fans sent in the redemption cards they would get a card back from Upper Deck that featured Shaquille O'Neal in a time lapse dunk pose. The redemption card was . What was you ask? It was the non-redemption version of the card that was available as a short-print in Series 2 boxes.

Today the version 1a card carries a small premium over the 1b version and often sells between $7-$10, based on condition.

Today's Card of the Day is a rookie, well kinda. For most of the 1980s, Topps didn't hold a license to produce NBA cards. When they reacquired the rights for the 1992-93 Season, they decided to have a little fun.

What fans got was kind of a what if series called 1992-93 Topps Archives that featured current NBA stars in mock ups of what their rookie cards may have looked like if Topps would've been able to make one for them. This one features a recreation of a what a 1984-85 Topps Charles Barkley rookie card may have looked like.

Overall the set featured cards from the "missing years" of Topps from 1982-1991 and the creative rookie cards of stars like Michael Jordan, Dominique Wilkins, Clyde Drexler, Karl Malone, Scottie Pippen, David Robinson and more. There were 150 total cards in the set and more rare boxed sets known at "The Rookies" Gold Sets were also available and currently go for $400+ on eBay.

Today's card of the day is a unique one. Although it's Father's Day, let's talk about Grandmama.
In 1991, Larry Johnson, of the upstart Charlotte Hornets, signed with Converse to be their new star. His initial commercials featured fellow Converse stars Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. The brand decided to pivot to a new concept, one Johnson didn't love. He had spent his signing bonus from the endorsement to buy his mom a house, so he felt he had no choice other than to embrace the Grandmama persona that Converse wanted to try.
Much to his surprise, the character was a bit, as were Johnson's signature sneaker. To help promote the shoe, Converse distributed this 7-card set from Front Row in various ways. These cards are somewhat hard to find these days, but worth about $10 as a set.

Today's Card of the Day is a 1996-97 Hoops Rookie Headliners Kevin Garnett. I just discovered this set recently as I never had any of them as a kid. I've always been a sucker for gold foil on cards so I find this set to have a lot of eye appeal. Original pack odds were 1:72, and current value on this card is about $3.

Today's featured card is a 1992-93 Stadium Club Members Only Michael Jordan. I love the photo on this card and believe a similar image from the same play is used on the 1992-93 Fleer Jam Session card. With the heat of the Bulls/Knicks rivalry at this time, this play was epic.

These cards were not available in Series 1 or Series 2 packs and were only available as part of 10,000 Members Only sets that were exclusively available through the mail. Those sets also came with complete Beam Team sets with a Members Only stamp.
