Think the change in your pocket is 𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴? 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻! American coins have some 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘁𝘆 𝘂𝗻𝘂𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆, and a few might surprise you!

𝟭. 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗮 𝟮𝟬-𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗶𝗻!
That's right! From 1875 to 1878, the U.S. Mint produced a 20-cent piece. Unfortunately, it looked so similar to a quarters of that era, that people kept confusing the two! It was discontinued after just a few years.

𝟮. 𝗣𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗘𝗟!
During World War II, copper was needed for military production. So in 1943, the U.S. Mint made pennies from zinc-coated steel instead! They're even magnetic! And a handful of copper pennies accidentally produced that year became extremely valuable collector's items.

Despite their name, certain nickels produced between 1942 and 1945 actually contained 35% silver! These special wartime nickels helped conserve nickel for military use.

Then came 𝟭𝟵𝟱𝟮, when Gibson introduced a legendary electric guitar, developed in collaboration with guitarist and inventor 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗺 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝘀𝗳𝘂𝘀𝘀 ... also known as, 𝙇𝙚𝙨 𝙋𝙖𝙪𝙡!
