With diesel fuel prices having hit nationwide record highs in recent days and fuel costs creeping higher and higher, many people have turned to biodiesel as their alternative fuel source.
Biodiesel is made from used vegetable oil, used cooking oil or animal fats. The oils reacting with methanol in the presence of a catalyst (usually sodium hydroxide) will form biodiesel with a by product of glycerol (or glycerin).
While there are plenty of new vehicles that come equipped with biodiesel engines, this feature isn’t essential for using alternative fuels. In fact, nearly 80% of the new diesel vehicles currently being manufactured are biodiesel compatible.
If you drive an older model diesel or a heavy-duty diesel, there is a chance that you will have to make a few modifications, but the process is common and simple to do.
Not only is biodiesel relatively easy to make but it also requires very little equipment to get started. As temperatures begin to finally rise across most of the country, many pool owners will be getting eager to open their pool for the summer season. But is it too early? Not if you have a Duda Solar Pool Collector. The heat from the sun will always warm your pool water to a certain extent but Duda Solar Pool Collectors have a unique advantage over conventional gas or electric pool heaters; they harness the energy from the sun! Gas heaters can cost up to $1500.00 a year and electric heaters about $850.00. With a Duda Solar Pool Collector the only cost to your utility bill is the price of running a pool pump which is typically less than $75.00 year.
Adding a solar pool collector to heat your pool can add anywhere from 10-13 degrees to your pool for a longer swim season on both ends of the season. We recommend using these collectors with a controller and pump. When a controller is present, the water can be circulated to collect the heat. This is the most efficient method. Alternatively, a timer setting can be used to run the pump when the sun is out. Or the pool pump which filters the water can have a small bypass which sends water through the collector prior to returning to the pool and heat will be collected whenever it is available.
