Ask for the complete list of ingredients and do your own research. Don't rely on the person who just wants to make money off of killing everything.

A few mosquito bites, and suddenly the neighborhood's calling for the spray truck. But that broad-spectrum pesticide doesn't just target mosquitoes. It hits everything—bees, butterflies, ladybugs, all the insects keeping your garden alive and your food system functioning. Thousands of non-target insects can d*e in a single spray, including the ones that had nothing to do with the problem.

Before you reach for that option, there's a lot you can do first. Eliminate standing water where mosquitoes breed. Use fans on your patio—they hate the air movement. Plant things like lavender, marigolds, and basil that naturally repel them. Encourage natural predators like dragonflies and bats. There are targeted control methods that won't wipe out your pollinators in the process.

Protecting yourself from mosquitoes matters. But so does protecting the insects that actually keep your ecosystem working. Small choices in your yard ripple outward.
