It’s been a busy on the farm this year! There has definitely been some interesting weather making things challenging to say the least. We’ve had a few projects going on this summer we’d like to share. First was adding some more drainage tile to one of our larger fields. Unfortunately we didn’t get any pictures or videos of the tile company working. However we did grab some pictures of the barn makeover project. We are turning part of the barn into a second repair shop. Take a look and let us know what you think. More to come as it keeps coming together .

The heat has been taking its toll on the sod, equipment and crew lately! One of our guys took these pictures last night as he was turning off the irrigation that was done and starting the night shift water.

We some times grow a little winter wheat when it fits our crop rotation schedule. The air conditioning in the combine blows very cold and was a great way to spend the last few afternoons.

To lay sod in extreme heat, install it within 6 hours of delivery or pick up and work in small, manageable sections to prevent the edges from drying out. Dampen the soil before laying to prevent roots from burning. Water each completed section immediately—do not wait to water the entire yard. Keep the roots damp by watering heavily multiple times a day during the first two weeks.

Some great advice from our fellow sod grower.

We are expecting some pretty hot and humid weather conditions today.🌡️☀️

In this heat, make sure to lay your sod as quick as possible, ideally within 6 hours of receiving. You should always start to water within the first 15 minutes of laying your first rolls. 🌱

Important:

❌Don’t water sod on a skid
❌Don’t cover sod on a skid
✅Water thoroughly after installation and keep yourself hydrated!
