Denny Hamlin just told you there is going to be a wreck at Talladega and he told you why.

On Actions Detrimental Thursday he said the blocks will be massive, somebody is going to make a bad one, and it is going to be a big old crash. Then he said what he is doing about it. Quote, there is no game plan. The game plan is to go out there and try to run as far up front as I possibly can.

He sits 31 points out with three races to go. Seven drivers are covered by 56. Nobody has the luxury of riding around in the back.

We are going with Tyler Reddick, who already has two superspeedway wins this year.

Serious question for Hamlin fans. Is running up front the only play he has left, or is that how he loses this title before halfway. Pick one.

Zane Smith fined $50,000 for hitting Carson Hocevar at Phoenix, and the replay says Hocevar did not start it. In the final 15 laps Ross Chastain's No. 1 bumped Hocevar's No. 77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet up the track and into Zane Smith's No. 38 Front Row Motorsports Ford. Smith's own crew radioed him that Chastain shipped the 77 into them. Smith said he did not care. Then he drove into the back of Hocevar on the cool down lap at over 100 miles an hour. NASCAR fined Smith under rules 4.4a and 10.5.2.5a with no points lost. Hocevar and Chastain got nothing. Mike Forde said on Hauler Talk that NASCAR had already hauled both drivers in at Atlanta after their Chicagoland run-in, and that the ask was ignored. Freeway Insurance 500 finish: Chastain 9th, Hocevar 12th, Smith 15th. So who are you actually mad at here, Smith or Hocevar. Tell us. Here is what nobody is accounting for at Talladega on Sunday.

NASCAR cut the spoiler to three and a half inches for this race and not one car has turned a competitive lap with it. The stages are split 98, 45 and 45, one long opening run and then two sprints where nobody has a reason to ride.

Kevin Harvick said it plain this week: there are so many unknowns going into Talladega, and nobody has raced with this particular rules package.

Seven drivers sit inside 56 points with three races left. We are going with Tyler Reddick, who already has two superspeedway wins this year at Daytona and Atlanta.

Serious question for Chase fans: does a brand new package help the guy leading the points, or the guy with nothing to lose. Pick one.

Peterson Racing spent this week telling fans to ask Austin Green. On Wednesday the team apologized for saying it.

Green opened 2026 as the full time driver of the No. 87 and got benched after Nashville, race 16. He got a run of starts back late in the year, ran Charlotte, finished 23rd, and that was the end of it. Nick Sanchez has the car for Talladega. Lee Pulliam has it full time in 2027.

The team's statement said personal attacks are not acceptable, acknowledged that its own social media replies added to the tension, and apologized for them.

Serious question for O'Reilly Series fans: did Peterson Racing owe him those last starts, or does a team get to change its mind whenever it wants. Pick one.

Tyler Reddick went 23 races without a win and still leads the NASCAR Cup Series in wins.

Kansas in April to Phoenix in October, almost six months between trips to victory lane. Seven top fives and 324 laps led during the drought, and not one of them turned into a win. No other 2026 Cup winner went longer than 15 races without one.

77. That is how many lead changes last year's YellaWood 500 produced, with 27 different drivers taking a turn out front.

The last 12 Cup races at Talladega have been won by 12 different drivers. Nine of the last 13 came down to a last-lap pass. Kyle Larson carries a five point lead into it and has never won on a drafting track in 58 starts.

Serious question for Chase fans: is Talladega the best race of the year, or the one that should not decide a title. Pick one and say why.

Change my mind. Denny Hamlin has had the worst luck of any Chase driver this year and it is not close.

Phoenix on Sunday. Running top five on lap 221 and the right rear lets go. He tries to slow a broken car into the pits, sped on entry, and finished 28th. A 31 race streak of lead lap finishes, gone in one afternoon.

On his podcast Monday he said it out loud. "I am mentally drained from the Cup Series." And then, "I want one smooth race that no bulls--- happens. That's what I want. I feel like the racing gods are picking on me."

He sits 31 points out with three races to go.
