Back with more album anniversaries of note, after a slight break >>> It's the 40th Anniversary of "Blood & Chocolate" by the great ELVIS COSTELLO and the Attractions !!! His 11th album marked a return to his early sound, stripped down punky rock, with producer Nick Lowe back on the board and it smoked !!! It begins with a statement of simplicity "Uncomplicated", then slams in to "I Hope You're Happy Now" and the ride is on !!! Other highs are "Blue Chair" , "Tokyo Storm Warning", and the epic, passion play, "I Want You" !!! This album closed a chapter as the final album on his original label, and the next year's signing to Warner Brothers !!! Still a powerful force today, Elvis is !!!!!

Last one for August ! >>> It's the 60th Anniversary of "Sunshine Superman", the 3rd album by DONOVAN !!! Considered a seminal release in the nascent new Psychedelic world in 1966, Donovan crafted a record that combined his Folk/Rock roots with hints of world music, elements of Celtic and Indian instruments, and the new psychedelic drugs on the scene !!! The title track alone tells the tale !!! The other major song here is "Season Of The Witch", bluesy and trippy, and still being played all the time, especially in movies and at Halloween !!! The album that made Donovan a hippie icon !!!!!

It's the 40th Anniversary of "Graceland" by PAUL SIMON !!! A truly brilliant album, blending the great songwriter with the sounds of AfroPop !!! The very first time I listened to this album, I called my friend Larry at Warner Brothers, and told him this is the Album Of The Year, and it turned out to be true at The Grammys !!!! Every song here is magical, from the title track throughout, with the singles "Boy In The Bubble", "You Can Call Me Al", and the killer "Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes" !!! I love the songs "Homeless" and the closer "All Around The World or The Myth Of Fingerprints" !!! The success of this album fired up interest in World Music, which became a phenomenon that roared deep into the 90s !!!!!

It's the 50th Anniversary of this iconic album, the first by the group called BOSTON !!! Still a weekly seller here, this is one of those records that just keeps on going !!! Sort of Pop Proggy, filled with radio friendly songs from start to finish, opening with the anthem "More Than A Feeling" and closing with "Let Me Take You Home Tonight" !!! In between are classic rockers like "Long Time", "Hitch A Ride", "Rock & Roll Band", and the smokin' "Smokin'" !!! I have sold this album at least a thousand times in the past 46 years, WOW !!!!!

Here's a big one for me >>> It's the 60th Anniversary of the first album by SERGIO MENDES & BRASIL '66 !!! Introducing a magical mix of Brazilian music and Pop tunes, with a great lead singer in Lani Hall, sweet harmonies throughout, and the excellent Jazz piano of Sergio Mendes to an unsuspecting American audience !!! They were an instant hit !!! From Jazz Samba hits like "Mas Que Nada" and "Aqua De Beber" to wonderful covers like "Goin' Out Of My Head" and The Beatles' "Day Tripper", this was Summer captured on Vinyl, with several more hot albums coming in the later half of the 60s !!! But, the magic started here, in August 1966 !!!!!

It's the 60th Anniversary of one of the best and most original of the American bands debut album JEFFERSON AIRPLANE "Takes Off" !!!
Mostly a fantastic Folk/Rock record with hints of what was to come in '67, this album featured the original female singer Signe Anderson, putting down the wonderful vocals with Marty Balin on songs like the single "It's No Secret" !!! Other great songs include the opener statement "Blues From An Airplane", "Let Me In", the killer "Come Up The Years", and a cover of "Let's Get Together", which became an anthem hit soon after for The Youngbloods !!! Here also are the first recordings of Ohio's own Jorma Kaukonen on guitar and the amazing Jazzy bass licks of Jack Cassidy, still a formidable team 60 years later !!!!! The new record buying youth need to get hip to the whole Airplane/Starship journey !!!
