I want you to meet Casey and Lauren of Couple Christophers.

Husband and wife, working out of Krum, just up the road from us. Casey builds buckles. Lauren cuts every brass shape and every letter by hand. The tag itself is 16 gauge steel, and the brass gets soldered on top of it.

They’re making these for us and for nobody else. We’re calling them Stock Tags. Four to start: our Loop W, bronc rider, horseshoe, and one you can put your own two initials on.

If you’ve got somebody who already has everything, this is the kind of thing they don’t have. No two come out the same, and it’s something a person keeps on them for the rest of their life.

Each one gets made after you order it, so give it three to four weeks. Find them at wilkinsonsfinegoods.com.

Driving into the shop today I got thinking about all this. About how hard it is some days to keep something like this going this long. I don’t always know how we do it.
Then I think about the people before me and what they had to put in to get it there.

That’s what the loop W means to me. It’s our mark now, our branding iron in a way. But it’s bigger than us. It’s a nod to every small, family owned business still putting in the work while corporate businesses try to buy up whole industries. There used to be a lot more of us. Now the ones left are getting tired.

The loop W is grit. Determination. What it takes to keep doing something when the odds are stacked against you.
It’s also the folks who back us. The ones who show us grace when we get something wrong, and patience knowing we’re not mass producing anything, that it takes time to do it right. That doesn’t go unnoticed and it’s greatly appreciated.

That’s the feeling I hope you get when you purchase something from us, big or small.

At the end of the day it’s about proving that small and family owned can still make it, one purchase at a time.

With gratitude,
Clint Wilkinson

I’m excited to finally share this: Wilkinson’s Fine Goods has partnered with Hermann Oak Leather Company.

Hermann Oak has been tanning leather in St. Louis since 1881, run by the same family this whole time, five generations in now. They got their start supplying harness leather to wagon trains and saddle makers heading west, and they’ve spent close to a century and a half since then doing right by anyone building something meant to last.

My grandfather used Hermann Oak leather to build his saddles. I use it to hand tool every custom piece that comes off my bench. This partnership isn’t new ground for us, it’s a leather my family has trusted for generations.

I’ve always liked the idea of pairing western hand tooling with smooth, undecorated leather, some pieces tooled, some left plain, just depending on what the piece calls for. Together I think it makes for a look that’s sophisticated but still unmistakably American West.

What excites me most about this partnership is getting to develop my own exclusive leathers with Hermann Oak, using their time tested techniques to build combinations nobody else is carrying. We’re phasing it in slowly: our standard goods first, then the high end line, and eventually the goods we build for our corporate partnerships too.

This is just another step in a never ending quest to refine the Wilkinson story and brand, and I’m excited about the future this partnership holds.

Meet my wife Laurie Leigh. We’ve been together 19 years, and now she’ll be around at Wilkinson’s to support our customers and build out the women’s collection. Our kids are getting older, one about to graduate, and I’m looking forward to this next chapter. The family legacy continues.

As Merle says — Someday we’ll look back and say, “it was fun”.

If you’ve come through our door in the past couple years, you’ve met Charlie. He helped grow this place and became a key part of the Wilkinson story. Now he’s headed down the road to chase something new, and we wish him well.

My grandfather had a tradition: anyone who worked here before they left had to sign the bootjack. I’m keeping that going. You can see his bootjack from the old store in the last photo, and Charlie just added his name to ours.

Thank you, Charlie. You’ve been a friend and a real part of what we’re doing here. The story is still being written.

Hunted Hide. These are always special to me because I don’t know what journey it took. The hunt, the harvest, the processing, the wait. A year-plus wait, in Spencer’s case, before this alligator arrived.

Now it’s mine to honor. These have to be made in the right state of mind. No distractions. Focused. One mistake and it’s ruined when someone’s trusting you with their prize possession. That’s the weight of it.

This is going to be made into a Wilkinson weekender bag that can be carried for the rest of his life. As a reminder of the hunt. To honor it.

Introducing Mavericks. Our version of a drop.

One-off pieces built from leather that didn’t fit the standard line: exotic scraps, off-color runs, cuts that would’ve hit the bin otherwise. Each one gets a number instead of a name. No set schedule. Once it’s sold, it’s gone.

First one up: Stray No. 1. A 5x8 notebook cover cut from a run of Horween Dublin leather, hand-scalloped corners, built-in pen holder. One of one.

Man, what a project this has been. I’ve been asked by people how postmalone found me. Well, I asked him, and he said Google. I thought that was pretty funny.

He placed this order well over a year ago, and I made him wait in line just like everybody else. Working through orders when I could, between customers stopping by the shop to visit.

I had a great conversation yesterday with someone about how the work here is intentional and slow. I’m not looking to sell a thousand pieces in a year. There’s a lot of people trying to scale that way, but that’s not what we want. We want folks to understand that when you place an order for leather goods from our shop, there’s a real wait. It takes time. In modern times, we get things in an instant, so patience never hurts anybody these days. If it’s on the shelf, there’s no wait. But when you order, you’re in line.

Thanks to Post Malone for the order and the wait. Thanks to Jim Burton for the phenomenal woodwork. And thanks to all our customers who show support through each purchase or by sharing the work forward.

Our legacy will continue and has since 1957 on this same downtown street corner in Denton, Texas.
