by learning to love, we learn to accept change. without change, we cannot grow. our will to grow in spirit and truth is how we stand before life and death, ready to choose life. - bell hooks, all about love

we don’t talk enough about how to let go, how to grieve… how to say goodbye.

we blissfully hope that good things last forever.. we ignore the blatant reality that change and death are the only consistent constants in this life.

instead of allowing that truth to guide us into loving fully and living presently, we avoid it.

nothing lasts forever.

nothing.

and the more we embrace that truth, the better we will become at loving, living.

the better we will become at being active participants in our lives.

the better we’d be at giving people their flowers.
telling people how we feel about them.
giving care and love.
spending quality time.
doing the things that make us feel alive.

the better we’d be at letting go.

so join us on the 24th to engage in a radical practice of letting go and loving on B+B.

it’s an invitation to lean into the discomfort of saying goodbye and truly honoring the place that B+B has had in all of our lives.

a love curated by Mother Earth, herself.

I’ve been thinking a lot about love and how my marriage has been a beautiful display of its power (doesn’t help that I’m reading Bell Hooks right now).

love, according to Bell, is the will to extend one’s self for the purpose of nurturing one’s own or another’s spiritual growth.

love is as love does.
love is an act of will— both an intention and an action.
we do not HAVE to love.
we CHOOSE to love.

and when we choose to love, we give ourselves permission to experience ourselves in our fullness.

we give ourselves permission to be nurtured, changed…. transformed.

true love gives us permission to discover ourselves, to self-actualize.

being truly seen is scary af sometimes… not going to lie. but that experience of opening your heart fully to allow someone in is magic. it’s Godly.

i’m truly grateful for this love.

to know true love in all of its forms, in all of its challenges, in all the ways its allowed me to grow and change and evolve and shift and transform.

and it’s also grounding. centering.

this love is my home. my sanctuary. my peace.

i hope that we all get to experience a love like this in our lifetime.

if this world were mine 💐

continuing our frolick down memory lane, the Black Love Project needs its own campaign honestly.

me and are literally always in sync when it comes to our creative ideas and this is one that i’m so proud of (also didn’t get the exposure it deserved so get ready).

we created this project to highlight Black love in all of its forms and manifestations.

we asked each couple to describe their love in color and created a scene/floral arrangements that we felt encompassed their energy.

Tiff and Adam’s shoot still lives rent free in my head to this day.

the sweetness and softness contrasted with the industrial, urban vibe made for a special moment that I’m so grateful we got to capture.

these two are both pillars of the Denver community and it’s beautiful to see how they show up and love one another in the fullest way.

they talked about how Black love to them is community and legacy and how that begins with how we love in the home.

thank you two for being a part of this project and allowing us to capture your love.

YOU are Black love.
YOU are Black excellence.
YOU are everything Black + Blossomed stands for.

and you will forever be a part of B+B’s legacy, community ✊🏾💐

someday i’ll find my way through all of this ✨

but in the meantime, i’m just wandering… creating.

doing this installation provided me with a very timely, very powerful reminder.

everything always comes together in the end.

an installation always starts with just an idea, a vision…

and as you progress through the steps of inspiration, collaboration, mechanics, learning, seeing, trial and error, taking a step back, assessing, executing…

soon enough, you end up with something beautiful.

something tangible.

something real.

letting the inspiration of this install guide me through this phase of uncertainty.

because i know that while i may not be able to see it all right now, it will all come together beautifully in ways that I couldn’t even imagine.

as we head into the closing of our retail space, we’ll be taking the next couple weeks to go down memory lane. reflect with us ✨

first up, the mural:

the mural is THE most iconic part of this space and arguably the thing that i’m going to miss the most.

when I first approached .monet about doing the mural for the space, we originally just talked about doing one wall (the back wall)— I didn’t give her much direction… just told her that i was interested in seeing her perspective of B+B and wanting to capture how she sees the business.

and this is what she created…

i get emotional thinking about (and getting to experience) the amount of love, intentionality, and power that she put into this space. it’s truly magical.

we were originally supposed to open the space in October 2022 but had soooooo many construction delays (you know how that goes) and .monet worked so diligently to make sure the mural got done in time.

a queen, truly.

the only thing we went back and forth on was the wall color. she wanted to make it purple and i was like “respectfully, hell naw.” 😂

so many of you comment on the wall color and how grounding it feels so I think we made a good call on that one lol

there are so many beautiful moments embedded in the murals that hopefully you’ve been able to catch.

if not, HIGHLY recommend you taking a closer look next time you’re in the space.

Shakerra, thank you from the bottom of my heart for creating such a beautiful and impactful moment in this shop. You are so gifted and so talented and I’m forever grateful that you were willing to share that gift with me and everyone who got to experience this space.

It will forever be cemented in history.
