We'll always remember the country star (1946-2026) for her efforts to ensure that kids everywhere had something to read. RIP Dolly Parton.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a book gifting program that mails free books to children from birth until they begin school in participating areas.

After communing with the cats, stop by the bookstore for some complementary reading. Cats and books go together like peanut butter and jelly, fish and chips, and movies and popcorn. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/19DWZY5PTu/

The third annual Park Hill Cat Tour is a free walking tour of the northeast Denver neighborhood, during which participants — who must RSVP — stop to meet and sometimes greet local felines and their owners.

Colorado's literary community makes us proud.

Colorado's literary community makes us proud.

We’re excited to announce the two books selected to represent Colorado at this year’s National Book Festival’s Great Reads from Great Places! These selections represent Colorado’s local literary heritage and commemorate 150 years of statehood and 250 years of American independence. A selection of programs will be livestreamed online starting August 22, and videos of all programs will be available shortly after the festival.

The selected titles to represent Colorado are:

Adult: Four Corners Voices: Stories, Poetry, Essays by 2025 Colorado Book Awards Anthology winners Chuck Greaves, Lisa C. Taylor, Mark Stevens

Youth: Adela’s Mariachi Band by 2025 Colorado Book Awards Children’s Literature finalist Denise Vega, illustrated by Erika Rodríguez Medina

Congratulations!

Do you have a DNF (did not finish) shelf? Or do you hang with the Clean Plate Club and finish every tome you tackle?

Tell us in the comments. We promise: we won't judge.

Is it shameful, or sensible, to put down a book you don’t enjoy? Three little letters, and social media, have turbocharged a longstanding debate.

Book podcasts are the next best thing to turning pages. When a former president launches one to discuss his favorite titles, it's time to turn up the volume. Question: Will his recommendations and conversations boost book sales?

The former president will discuss works by James Baldwin, Toni Morrison and Marilynne Robinson, among others, in a podcast that will premiere in September.

Some people go to the Lowry Farmers' Market for fresh rutabagas and ripe stone fruits. Others seek out food for thought. Enter the Park Hill Community Bookstore. We had a great time at Saturday's event and sent a number of books to good homes.

Never fear. The middle-grade novel boom continues.

These recommendations should tide over fans of Jeff Kinney’s laugh-out-loud illustrated novels until the next installment.

So what's everybody reading? Why, a Pulitzer Prize winner from Colson Whitehead, of course. You may have heard of it. Thank you for reviving One Book, One Denver.

Psst. When you've finished "The Nickel Boys," stop by our shop for your next page-turning read.

What would your perfect reading day actually look like? A window seat, a lamp in just the right spot, a long afternoon and absolutely nowhere to be? That daydream now has a name, and a fast-growing industry built to make it real.

It's called the readaway, and it's showing up everywhere: 12-day journeys tracing a favorite novel's path, hotels that leave a locally chosen book in your room, even a heritage railway running library-quiet "read and rides." A book, as one traveler put it, gives you the significance of a place that a guidebook never could. Which kind of readaway would you book first?
