Hello to my Treasured Acme Friends and Family,

It’s been 30 years now since Scott Malandrone introduced my loudspeaker designs to the world with his rave review of my Low B-2 and Low B-4 models in Bass Player Magazine. That event was life-changing, comparable in significance to that of having a child. Seriously.

I was 41 at the time. I’m 71 now.

The experience and the business have been great, and the love and loyalty I’ve gotten from my customers all over the world has been a continued source of joy for me. The freedom and flexibility the business has given me in my life has enabled me to raise my disabled son and give him and his development the attention they have needed. He’s 32 now, and doing well.

I have come to the point, however, where I need to pass the business to someone else, if I can, in order for production to continue. Amazingly enough the speakers, essentially unchanged in all these years, are still in demand, despite the lack of advertising in the last 15 or more years!

The business is still viable, but for someone else, not me. It isn’t fun for me anymore, and I don’t need the money. I would like more time to write on the subject of the physics of loudspeakers, an area in which I have contributions to make. Also, my 1x10 model has gotten some attention in the audiophile community, and I have been asked to make this model available in fine hardwoods for home-use. I don’t know if that will happen or not.

Until I can find a way for the business to continue in someone else’s hands, production is now suspended, and after I sell the few remaining cabs I won’t have any more available.

I owe my loyal customers the excellent customer service I’m known for, which will remain uninterrupted until I’m dead, which I hope well be quite a while. When I find someone to take over, their attention to customer service will be a prerequisite, so don’t worry about losing that.

I hope to find someone to take the business who will be willing to learn how to build these things right, which might not be as easy as it sounds. If you’re interested, or know somebody who would be, please let me know. I know there are a lot of loudspeaker hobbyists who dream of doing it professionally, and this could be a chance for such a person to make that leap. This person will find my terms quite reasonable. I expect to let my inventory of parts to go at cost, or close to it, and I’ll want a commission on units sold.

If someone want to make a better offer...

Hello Acme People,

Andy here.

Over the years, I've tried to keep track of where all the Acme cabs are, and what service or driver replacements they've had, etc.

Because of this attention to each and every cab, I have been able to help my customers recover their stolen cabs at times in the past.

A couple of 8 ohm Series II cabs showed up on Craigslist in Denver the other day (for a great price!). We actually have very few customers in Colorado, so I wondered which cabs they were, and who was selling them.

I contacted the guy, and asked him for the serial numbers, and didn't get a response.

I had a friend of mine contact him, and ask for the serial numbers of the cabs. All he would tell us was the last four digits, which were A202 and B204. Then the guy got real secretive and defensive, and said he wouldn't sell them to my friend, because he was too "nosy."

I searched the database, and found that there had been a cab stolen with a match for the A202 number.

At this time, I'm trying to locate the buyer of the B204 unit, to see if his was stolen as well, but there were quite a few serial numbers that ended with those four digits.

I'm not sure how to proceed, but if you had an 8 ohm Series II Low B-2 stolen, let me know. I might have found your cab.

In the world of loudspeakers, there's a type of crossover network called a "series" network.

In all my years of doing this, I've never seen it meaningfully discussed...anywhere.

It has some complexities that are completely off the radar of many "experts."

Most of the people who see themselves in that way HATE the idea, even though they don't understand it.

So, I'm doing some testing on it, with the intention of writing up what I learn in for probable publication in "AudioXpress" magazine, who have been willing to pay me for articles of this type in the past.

So, I wrote up a paragraph or two about what I'm up to, and what speaker drivers I'm using to do it, and attempted to post it on a page for people who design loudspeakers.

The "moderators" declined to post it.

Why? They didn't say. Total passive aggressiveness!

I think it's because they don't want to admit they don't know everything.

Isn't Facebook grand?

So, just for the heck of it, I'll post it here.

Question for my Acme people:

I just got an inquiry from a gentleman as to whether the Low B models will do OK with an "open G" tuning, which apparently has the G note below Low B.

Do any of you have experience with this, and might be able to help me give him a definitive answer?
