Hey everyone!

With so many new followers, I wanted to take a moment to thank you for choosing to follow us and introduce myself!

My name is Shayla, and I am a mompreneur. I own and actively run Once Upon Again Bookstore and Freya Beauty Salon. Both are small businesses located in the heart of Derry, NH.

I am a mom of three boys and one girl pup. I am recently married to my longtime crush (if you know, you know 😜😍), and we are a blended family of love, chaos, and dreams.

Many have asked me, why a bookstore? Although, those already in my life for a while were not shocked.

What started as a little library/used book sales in the corner of my salon became this big adventure you all now see. In our salon, we talk about books… A LOT. We are always talking recommendations, stories, and characters as if they were real. I loved the way books brought strangers together. So, with my retail management experience, my marketing degree, and the inability to just sit and enjoy quiet, I opened Once Upon Again.

Did you know we weren’t always supposed to be just a bookstore? When I first looked for a commercial space, I was looking for a space to host educational classes for the beauty industry. I thought my next business venture was continuing education for licensed beauty professionals. Needless to say, what was planned to only be 10 ft of books turned into a full-on bookstore. Because YOU all said YES PLEASE! And MORE!!!

My heart is filled with gratitude every day. Wonderment that this is all real. And honor that you have all chosen to support this passion project of mine. We announced in March that we were coming to our own space in town with ZERO followers. In a matter of FIVE months, you brought us up to 2.3K followers on Facebook. I truly couldn’t have done this without the amazing people who have built this community from day one, not knowing me, and the new people who join every day.

It is said that your business is a reflection of the people around you. And I am so lucky that I am surrounded by genuine, caring, loving, sarcastic, kind, and amazing people inside and out.

📚🏡 We're so excited to officially announce the first-ever Once Upon Again Bookie Retreat! 🏡📚

This has been a dream of ours for a long time—a weekend created just for our Bookie community to unplug, relax, read, laugh, and make unforgettable memories together.

🗓 October 23–25, 2026
📍 Madison, New Hampshire

Because this retreat takes place in a private home, this is not an open-to-the-public event or a first-come, first-served ticket sale. Instead, we're using a Request a Spot application.

This isn't about being exclusive—it's about creating a safe, comfortable weekend for the community we've built together. We want to know the people we're welcoming into the home, whether you've attended our book clubs, events, socials, or have been introduced through someone in our Bookie community.

Retreat Options

🏡 Weekend Pass (On-Site): $325
Stay Friday through Sunday with slumber party-style accommodations (couches, air mattresses, sleeping bags, etc.).

🛏 Weekend Pass (Off-Site): $295
Enjoy the full retreat experience while staying at your own nearby accommodations.

📚 Saturday Day Pass: $195
Join us for a full day of activities, meals, and community on Saturday.

Your retreat includes meals, a coffee bar and snacks, an exclusive retreat T-shirt, swag bag, Blind Book Yankee Swap, book discussions, crafts, a PJ party, Books by the Fire, and plenty of cozy time with fellow Bookies. Optional workshops and wellness experiences will also be available for an additional fee.
