Hope House and Hope Treasures work together to create a self-sustaining, impact-driven model that helps individuals transition from temporary housing to permanent homeownership.

Hope Treasures: A For-Profit Thrift Store with a Purpose

Hope Treasures is a for-profit thrift store designed to generate funding for Hope House while providing employment and work experience for residents. To maximize sales and outreach, we will operate a delivery service with a dedicated truck, ensuring customers receive their purchases conveniently. The store will also receive and process donations from the community, strengthening our sustainability model.

Hope House: A Transitional Living Program with a Clear Path to Homeownership

Hope House is a nonprofit transitional living program for individuals who do not have stable housing, whether they are experiencing homelessness, living in motels, or in other unstable conditions. Residents will pay a monthly program fee, which will later be used to support their transition into rent-to-own homeownership.

Program Structure & Resident Benefits:

Three-Month Employment Rotation: Residents will work in Hope Treasures in three-month intervals, gaining work experience, professional references, and income stability.

Pathway to Homeownership: Upon completing the program, funds collected from program fees will be used to support down payments, home repairs, or other essential costs to secure a rent-to-own home.

Workforce & Homebuilding Experience: After the initial three-month rotation, residents will engage in hands-on home rebuilding efforts, gaining valuable sweat equity and contributing to their future homes.

Transportation Support: Residents with vehicles will receive gas cards, while those without will receive bus passes to ensure reliable transportation.

Enrichment & Trauma-Informed Care: All staff, including security, will be trauma-informed, and residents will have the option to take trauma-awareness courses to build resilience and coping skills.

Employment Opportunities: Once a year, one resident will be selected for permanent employment with either Hope House or Hope Treasures until all permanent positions are filled.

Food Access: Meals or snacks will be available at all hours to accommodate different work and program schedules.

Eligibility & Screening: Residents must submit a letter of interest and undergo an approval process. The first month’s rent may be covered by voucher assistance from partner organizations. Random drug screenings will be conducted to maintain a safe and stable environment.

To strengthen our impact, we are actively seeking partnerships with:

Home Depot (for home repair materials and employment opportunities)

N.A.C.A. (for homeownership programs and financial assistance)

Detroit Land Bank (for access to affordable housing and property rehabilitation)

Brilliant Cities (for urban development and revitalization efforts)

Developing Kids (for youth enrichment and skill-building)

We have already begun outreach and will continue fostering relationships with organizations that align with our mission.
