Every collection starts somewhere and for me this year, a lot of inspiration has come from the 100 day project I completed. Not because I planned it that way, but because spending 100 days painting anything teaches you what you actually care about. I first painted a few funky colors in this fun color palette. The thistle showed up later. A little funky, a little dramatic, perfect on a dark grey background. It clicked right into place with the other pieces I had already painted. Sometimes it happens that way, not planned. One painting points to the next and eventually you look up and realize you have a whole thing. I liked how they turned out so much that I made them available as framed art prints - find them at tandemfortwo.com!

June in the studio has its own rhythm. Something about the longer days makes me want to stay at my worktable a little longer, try bigger shapes, not rush to the next thing. This is what that looks like. No big agenda. Just paint and see where it goes. There is something genuinely good about a creative practice in summer. Everything slows down just enough to let you actually make something.

There is a point every year when I move my work outside. What I like about this shift is that I did not have to change my whole routine to get a different result. I still start the same way. I still do the same work. I just move part of it somewhere else. If you are feeling stuck in your own routine, especially after a long winter, this might be something to try.

I did not grow up knowing I was going to make art. I grew up knowing I was good at science and figuring things out and following a pretty logical path. Then somewhere along the way curiosity took over and the path got a lot more interesting. I picked up a paintbrush when I probably should have been doing something more sensible and honestly I have not looked back. This is what that looks like on a Tuesday. Just showing up to my worktable and seeing what happens. It is not always graceful and it is almost never a straight line but it is mine and I love it.

Come along for the ride!

Some paintings I made during the 100 day project and I moved on. This fern is not one of those. I finished it and kept coming back to look at it, so I decided I wanted it for my home. I took the plunge and committed to painting on a larger canvas. I love how it turned out! I've become a little obsessed with the emerald and aqua combination and I've always love gingko leaves, so I painted a mini one. I may have to paint this one larger too some day.

If you'd like either of these to hang on your wall, shop the link in my bio!

I painted this one afternoon when I just needed to make something happy. Big loose petals, that kind of blue that only shows up in summer, a lot of pink. I wasn't following a plan, just painting until it felt right. Then I couldn't stop imagining it everywhere. On pillows you'd stack on a sofa, on a runner down the middle of a table, on plates you'd actually use, not save for company.

I've been building out the full collection and I would love to see it made. Swipe through to see where it's headed. If you're a manufacturer or designer who works with art like this, DM me. I'd love to talk. If you just love a colorful floral moment, save this one and come along for the ride!

It started with painting one of my favorite flowers - a Tulip. Then I thought, well, I love Poppies too. Then I started looking through my camera roll and found the fun Society Garlic and the Zinnia. Even though I thought it might be pretty hard to pull off, I decided to try a Peony because I do love them too. I think they all turned out fabulous, but I have to say the Peony is my favorite one of them all. I surprised myself with this artwork! Dreaming of what I would want to see it on in my home was the easy part!

Swipe through to see where my head is going with it: from the original paintings to a whole tabletop moment I'd love to see come to life. If you're a product developer or manufacturer and if any of this is calling your name, DM me. I would love to talk about making this collection a reality.

What do you pick up at the beach without thinking about it? For me it’s shells, always shells. I have tons of jars and bowls around my home just filled with shells.

This collection started with one. Swipe to see where it went. And then tell me in the comments: what do you always bring home?

From my studio table to somewhere you’d put your morning coffee. I love the process of creating art, but I love dreaming up products just as much! Swipe to see what ideas I came up with and DM me if you’re instead in licensing this artwork for your products!
