Nowadays Flowers

Most of the time we’re pretty heads down at the farm. Moving quick to get everything done, chasing Frankie around half the time. I rarely get around to documenting the flowers as much as I’d like to.

But they’ve really been great this year, and I wanted to capture the season, before it comes to an end. I asked our pal NH EMPOWERMENT BO***IR to stop by with her camera, and I love seeing our space and life through her lens.

At first I was really only thinking about some website updates, to be honest. But what she captured is much more than just the flowers. It’s a snapshot of this chapter for our family. This chaotic but beautiful, exhausting but rewarding, fleeting season.

Looking through these, I want to remember the feeling of having figured out a lot of things a few years in, but always having so much more to figure out. Trying to balance it all, grow in a way that feels right for us, and show our daughter what it looks like to build something meaningful together.

Hannah, thank you for being so, so good at what you do. You’re an incredible artist, and an even more amazing human behind the lens. Grateful for your time, care, and craft.

I accidentally stumbled into gardening seven years ago, when I felt lost and needed a sense of purpose and hope. But this daily practice has given me so much more than I expected. Year later, my belief that beauty isn't just a luxury has only gotten stronger. It's not frivolous, or decorative, or something to come back to when all the important stuff is figured out. Nurturing something beautiful can be infrastructure for better mental health and emotional wellbeing.

My goal with this talk is not just to get more people cultivating beauty in their own lives, accessing more joy and connection, but to also realize just how simple it can be. It can look like a lot of different things, and it doesn't need to be perfect or complicated. The outcome can be life-changing.
