My name is Amber Wells, and I founded Formal Exchange in 2018, in Shelby, Ohio, after recognizing a need in my community for affordable formal wear.
At the time, I was a single mother working full-time and raising my daughters. I saw firsthand how difficult it could be for families to justify spending hundreds of dollars on a dress or formal outfit that might only be worn for a few hours. I knew there had to be a better way.
That is why I created Formal Exchange, a safe, one-stop place where families can buy and consign gently used or new formal wear. My mission has always been to help make life's special moments more affordable while providing families with an opportunity to earn money back by consigning items they no longer need.
Today, I am blessed to be remarried, and together my husband and I have a wonderful blended family that includes two daughters and two bonus children. Family remains at the heart of everything I do, both personally and professionally.
Now located in Dover, Ohio, Formal Exchange has grown into more than just a consignment business. I proudly host "Barn Sales" from my Formal Exchange warehouse, welcoming families from across the region to shop thousands of affordable formal dresses and accessories in a fun and unique setting.
As a firm believer in supporting small businesses, I am grateful for the loyalty and support of the many families who continue to shop with Formal Exchange year after year. One of the greatest blessings has been watching returning customers bring the next generation of girls through our doors as they begin attending their own formal dances and special events.
