Last Saturday, September 28th was a rough one. At roughly 7:00 PM that evening, my father, Daniel Bogue, passed away peacefully at Good Samaritan Hospital, in Downers Grove, IL. Mom, my brother Cheston and I were at his bedside most of the day and when he passed. It was great that his brother Joey Bogue, his sister Barbara Infantino, my mom’s brother Kevin Stawiarski and my Aunt Kim Stawiarski, and my cousins Lisa and Joey were able to let him know that he was (and is) loved and will never be forgotten.
We thought dad was about to leave us around 4:00 PM that day, however Cheston began playing recordings of some of his favorite piano pieces, including Claude Debussy’s “Arabesque No.1 ,” which I remember dad playing many, many times before, and he decided to hang in there a little longer to take in the sounds. It was when Cheston played recordings of his own performances of various pieces that dad finally was ready to go. It was as if he was waiting to hear Cheston play one last time.
I cannot speak more highly of the staff at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, from the nurses and doctors at the emergency room to the Advocate Hospice team and the nursing staff attending to his rooms in both the ICU and during his hospice care. They could not have provided a more comfortable setting for dad (and for all of us) during this very difficult time.
Dad had been a former Director of Sales and Service for the Wicks Organ Company, and had spent decades maintaining, restoring, and building pipe organs. His job was his passion, and if it was not for his interest in the organ, my brother and I would likely not be doing what we do today.
Thanks to all that have already shared their condolences, and thanks to anyone sharing their well wishes and prayers going forward. Now is the time to celebrate dad’s life and many accomplishments. He had a tough last few years, but its reassuring to know in my heart that he is in a better place. I will always miss you, dad, and truly appreciate everything you have done for all of us during your quite impressive life. R.I.P.
