What comes after the rubber pond liner? BOULDERS! And lots of them. In this case, we purchased a pile of rocks and boulders in a field in Wagontown PA. Buying the boulders was not the big deal. Moving them was! We bought, borrowed and rented a combination of equipment that could handle BIG ROCKS, and for six to eight weeks we trailered boulders from the field to our pond site. Loading a trailer full, driving home, unloading them and placing them artfully in the pond took up free evenings and Saturdays while we still mostly served customers during the week. This is what they looked like coming out of the field.

After the hole was dug and cleaned up, the liner went in. In this case a 52' x 40' EDDM 45mil Rubber Pond Liner. We stock liner in 5', 10' 15', 20', 25', 30', 35', 40' and 50' wide in any length up to a complete 100' roll. This was a very big liner and we had to be creative to get it in place. Note: only 17 more days to the Fish & Furniture Festival with free food from Honey Brook BBQ, great door prizes and fantastic specials.

Show pond progress - due to various factors, the machine we were using, the limitations of the space we were working with, and perhaps just some communication between the operator and myself, the pond didn't end up exactly the shape i had drawn on the ground. In looked more like a building foundation than a pond. However, it is as large as we can get in the area between our two parking areas and we will use the placement of the boulders to give the pond more character. So, digging the hole was completed with the deadline of the Fish and Furniture Festival on September 25th and 26th looming ever closer!

Step two in building any pond is to dig. For that we needed an excavator. I asked a friend about renting one of his, explaining what we needed to do, the size of the hole and the placing of the rocks afterwards. Even so, our team was surprised when the semi dropped off the machine. It's was a 40,000 pound machine with a 19' reach. We had to lay plywood on the drive so the metal cleats would not tear up the driveway. It had a 30" wide half-yard bucket on it. Yup. That will do. And so the digging began.

One big excitement for this year's Fish and Furniture Festival is the expectation of our new Show Pond Reveal. The to be finished by the Festival (Lord willing) Show Pond began just a few weeks ago when we laid a garden hose in the dirt and painted its borders with up-side-down spray paint. The start of a BIG job.

Of interest to local pond enthusiasts, we have made PGP's first Hardy Pond Plant pickup from our local growers. Hardy (perennial) plants are now being offered for sale.

We also have Water Lettuce and Water hyacinths, but be aware that if it gets anywhere close to freezing these Tropical Plants will need to be protected or brought inside.

Dana will be heading out to get our first batch of tropical water plants from the grower in a couple of weeks. Currently tropical plants are not for sale except the floating lettuce and hyacinths as they are accustomed to the temperatures inside the hot house.

Boutique hours 8:00 to 4:30 Monday thru Friday and outside those hours by appointment.

It's that time of year friends. We can all save ourselves a lot of frustration by getting a "tented net" over the pond before the leaves fall. We have lots of suggestions of how to do it. For small ponds actual net tents are available like this one! A pond net helps keep the pond clean AND keeps out most predators when the fish are otherwise exposed and vulnerable.
