On today's "Morning Connection" on Connect FM, Chris Heasley of Shankel's Pharmacy in DuBois recounts the story of how he has gone from being a pharmacist intern 13 years ago to becoming the new owner and operator. He also talks about the Shankel's Pharmacy legacy, and how to stay "competitive" in today's big pharmacy climate.

Without further ado-

We present to you the AMAZING new owners of Shankel’s Pharmacy!

As of September 10th, 2026, the Pharmacy is now in their hands.

Chris has been a pharmacist at our store for 13 years, working along side Tom through all the ups and downs. He has come to be one of the most knowledgeable people we know. He has grown the pharmacy in so many ways. From our medbox program to vaccines and even a maternal health program. For years, he has looked for reasons to better our Pharmacy, in hopes to one day be the owner.

His wife, Brittany has been behind him every step of the way. She raises their 3 children at home, all the while keeping his head on straight, and keeping him focused on the goal. She is kind and nurturing and we hope you all get to know and love her like we do!

Chris has many, many goals and dreams for the store and his team will be behind him every step of the way. We pray for great success for him, and his family, and we hope to provide you with the same amazing service and care that was provided to you for the last 39 years.

The owners at Shankel’s may not be the same, but one thing always will be-

Caring for you, is what we do.

Congratulations Chris and Brittany! We can’t wait to see what the future holds!

Saturday night we celebrated Tom.

Shankel’s Pharmacy has been in this small community since 1923, though it didn’t become the Shankel’s most of us know until March 1st, 1987.

The day Tom became owner.

It is difficult to put into words how we feel about Tom. He has been nothing short of an amazing pharmacist, boss and all around person. Some people are truly sent to this earth to do the lords work, and he is a servant. The amount of lives he has touched has reached thousands. Including ours. To be as patient and loving, understanding and knowledgeable, devoted and supportive as Tom, would be nothing short of a blessing.

Under Tom’s ownership, the pharmacy has been a place where many people feel safe, welcomed and cherished. It’s always easy for someone to say “Go to Shankel’s, Tom will help you.”

I myself recently had an appointment, and the provider said to me “Tom and Chris are some of the best pharmacists I know. They are so attentive to their patients and they really care about them. It’s been a pleasure to work along side them for all these years.”

And that alone speaks volumes about who we are at Shankel’s Pharmacy. Because that is who Tom taught us to be. He has been the best mentor and leader we could have ever asked for.

Many tears were shed, as Chris and Tom both talked about how grateful they were to have each other in their lives, but what they don’t know, is how absolutely grateful we are for them. They have made it so, that work feels like a place we can call our second home, and where family always matters.

Chris has some really big shoes to fill, but we have no doubt that he will be capable to do so. He really was taught by the best.

We wish nothing but the best for Tom in his retirement. To travel and experience things he’s always dreamed of, and to enjoy the life he’s worked so hard to achieve.

We’ll be here, making you proud.🤍

We had our annual Christmas party tonight at Luigi’s!

Such a delicious meal and a wonderful night as always! We look forward to this all year!

As many of you know, Tom is retiring.
This was the last Christmas party under his ownership. It has been an absolute pleasure to have a boss as amazing as him.

Chris sure has big shoes to fill, but we have no doubt that he’ll be just as amazing!

What a blessing it is to have such great people to work with, and work for.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from your Shankel’s Pharmacy crew, where caring for you, is what we do!💚❤️
