Ok so, here is the “Look what I’ve done” portion of my wee page! To start off I have a few letters I can add to the back of my name but I won’t get pretentious, good amount to do with History, writing and clothing. I have extensive knowledge of Historical costume design, construction, restoration, alteration and repair of Historical clothing/costume/accessories. Comprehensive knowledge of
the principles, practices and techniques of costume design. Familiar with the operating process and procedures of movie production, theatre and living history. Supervise all aspects of clothing design and restoration, including sourcing of fabrics, pattern drafting and manufacturing. Design costumes according to production concept and story era determined through consultation with the director. I have created Historical clothing and accessories for the BBC and History Channels, made clothing and accessories for living history, have restored historical clothing for museums around the world and worked as “First Person” interpreter in many living history museums. Technical stuff out of the way….here I am, loving the Fantasy side of my sewing by “upcycling” clothing into new ideas. The shapes, colors and textures that I choose make an immediate and powerful visual statement to the potential buyer, which is very important to me. A simple sweater itself is inspiration, as is work of other artists, as well as fabrics, fibre, artists, photographs, illustrations, paintings of all sorts, textures in the world at large. Inspiration can come from anything……and usually does!
