We offer limited custom framing; call 252-207-4273 for an appointment with Pete Turek for framing. August 12, 2026. In a single day, the sky delivers three of astronomy's greatest shows.

Before sunrise, six planets stretch across the eastern sky in a grand parade: Mars and Saturn shine to the naked eye, Mercury and Jupiter hug the horizon, while Uranus and Neptune wait for binoculars and a telescope.

By day, the Moon slides in front of the Sun in a total solar eclipse, sweeping from Arctic Russia across Greenland, Iceland, and northern Spain. It's the first total eclipse over mainland Europe since 1999.

Then, after dark, the Perseid meteor shower peaks, up to 100 meteors an hour. And here's the beautiful thread tying it together: the same New Moon that makes the eclipse also leaves the night sky perfectly dark for the meteors. Six planets. A vanished Sun. Shooting stars. One unforgettable day 🪐🌑🌠

Happy National Play in the Sand Day from the SeaDragon & Yellowhouse Gallery family!

Every year on August 11th, people across the globe embrace the simplicity and joy of playing in the sand. Whether it’s the vast coastline or a cozy backyard sandbox, this day is a reminder to let loose and mold your imagination into sandcastles of possibility.
Playing in the sand isn’t just a whimsical pastime; it’s a chance to connect with the earth and unleash creativity.

Forgive me for being one day late!

Observed annually on August 7, National Lighthouse Day honors the beacon of light that for hundreds of years symbolized safety and security for ships and boats at sea.

For more than two centuries, lighthouses have guarded the Outer Banks coast and always guided the way. Generations of seaborne travelers and mariners have sought the comfort of these beacons' reassuring light as they navigated the perilous channels and shoals that mark the Graveyard of the Atlantic. Perhaps that is why these sentinels, among the tallest in America, have come to serve as beacons of hope and inspiration.

We love our artists!
Enjoy the lighthouse art of Carolina Coto, Mattgibsonart.com, M.C. Todd Design and Illustration, Jim Day, Stephanie Kiker Designs, @

We successfully navigated a 10-hour system upgrade and technical support period yesterday. Though we all chose to wear neutrals we hope we showed positive, sunny energy and SMILES as we powered through and even did a little bit of math while taking cash sales. We appreciate the understanding and patience exhibited by our customers during this time, and we are grateful for their loyalty.

August 5th is National Oyster Day!
Did you know there are over 100 different species of oysters? Interestingly, oysters tend to take on the characteristics of the water in which they live. On the east coast, oysters tend to be smaller, milder and saltier. However, west coast oysters take on a creamy texture and a sweet flavor. Only one out of every 10,000 oysters will produce a pearl.

New Kelly Jean acrylic paintings have arrived! And one, “Crab holding Sardine” was up on the wall for less than 4 hours when its humor enchanted a customer visiting from Boston. Her other new works include “Sanderling in Green Frame,” “Mahi-Mahi” with its unique rope frame, “Octopus Porch Sitter,” which can be hung vertically or horizontally, and “Surfer,” framed in weathered wood. LOVE how her paintings look on our wall!
